this is a claim ive seen in forums. itachi is supposedly a great guy who never sought power like his clan.

in a sense all kage level people are, but it only makes sense. you dont just wake up one day and suddenly your powerful and knowledgeable. you work for those things yourself, because you get some and then you want more and more and more and more. its not even because he didnt have enough already. he had no reason to learn izanami except for a situation where he might be resurrected as an immortal and be able to give up an entire eye to win one fight which he didnt really win anyway, unless he was gonna use it on obito in which case hes selfish for not doing so. and he didnt exactly object to being giftwrapped an entire eye by his friend. just more ways to manipulate his own brother right? and if one is a pacifist they dont exactly go around intentionally looking for all powerful weapons we wil never see him use on important villains or threats (yata, totsuka). if totsuka was easy to find, oro would have it by now. it only makes sense itachi spent years looking for the damn thing, for what else? more power!

i mean he never thought there would come a day where orochimaru would get himself sealed in a mental battle inside sasukes mind and hed have to stab him to get him out. he never thought thered be a day it was the only way to stop an immortal zombie pain. and he wasnt going to use it on akatsuki members because he never did even though there was a golden opportunity right before sasuke arrived to just stab that sharkman partner of his. he was gonna die anyway, why not? he had nothing left to lose. did protecting people from murderers o longer matter to him? in the beginning he was so apparently traumatised by war that he should have had nothing to do with the ninja life in the first fukin place which consists entirely of being ordered to fight in war. why was he made a ninja? he wanted power. why did he master sharingan? power. why was he promoted? he was strong. why did he seek out knowledge of the past instead of loving his clan? knowledge is power. why did he kill his clan? he wanted his home to continue being powerful and maintain the status quo. why is he a serial mindrapist? he likes having power over children.

i guess he felt having ultimate genjutsu, ultimate ninjutsu and ultimate reality manipulation through forming eternal loops in time perception isnt fukin enough. POWER POWER POWER.
i mean i can understand COMPLETE MONSTERS doing this sort of thing but not the dark brooding supposedly pacifist anti-villain. and you dont just learn all that he learnt without being hungry for more intel. he had no particular reason to know about who narutos dad was. after all for most of itachis life naruto was some random screaming dumbass kid who had kyuubi in him. this guy just never felt like he had enough. he had to keep delving into secrets, keep looking for legendary ghost swords, keep looking for new ways to exert power over his brothers free will and decisions. and only after dying did he realise "gee maybe this isnt such a hot idea. maybe i should ahve been bringing down these people and treating my brother like a human being rather than looking for a ghost sword to add to my already OP susano".

with naruto we know why he wants to become stronger, to surpass previous hokages and protect his friends. but he was never this much of a power-hungry obsessed maniac. he mastered what he had been presented with. fuuton affinity? ok create a new jutsu. frogs summoned me? ok sage mode. bee is here and is a perfect jin? ok teach me how. he didnt spent untold years looking for something that may or may not even exist and wasnt going to use on anyone important.

also the totsuka sword and yata mirror are ethereal which means he aint look for shit, they looked for him. i mean yeah he was a bit power hungry, but only as a means to an end. he didnt like fighting which is why he genjutsu solo'd people whnever he had the chance

Well Hiruzen mastered all Konoha jutsu and smoked his pipe instead of stopping Orochimaru . . . so he is power hungry and an addict.

Kabuto just gathered all the power he could and joined the evil side just for the sake of being evil and getting Sasuke's body . . . . so he is power hungry, evil and does not care about his family or anyone but himself.

etc

the op sounds crazy
cuz we have to change our whole point of view .

in itachi's defense
every one wants to be stronger
naruto , rock lee and many more , there is just no exeption

so the term power hungry is not the right term to use , itachi wanted them for suitable use
