U destroy both Itachi's eyes - there's no coming back from Totsuka that was wielded by his Susanoo.

well obito could have also captured the jinchurkis very easily too. he would just kamui them into the kamui dimension. Instead he hired a bunch of mercenary ninja over the course of 15 years to capture them slowly. It's just plot.
