More importantly Itachi is the most plothole infused character ever. Kishi did a poor job defining Itachi's personality and abilities.

According to the Manga:
Itachi's Yata Mirror can repel any attack. Really Kishi? Any attack?
Itachi's Sword of Totsuka is basically a one hit kill.
These two alone are said to make Itachi essentially invincible. Really Kishi?

Tsukuyomi : the one shot, brain crippling, instant and unbreakable genjutsu. (imo the most op jutsu ever) Really?
Amaterasu: the flame that devours flames.
Exploding water clones. Has anyone explained how that works or how he knew it? Aren't explosions a Kekkei Genka?
Itachi can make hand seals while throwing kuni. How? And Zetsu said Itachi was moving slower than normal when Itachi did it. WTF?
His body flicker allows him to attack then meet his target at the point of their retreat.
Izanami: The Plotwhole jutsu
Ephemeral: The plot no jutsu genjutsu

Let's stop overrating or underrating Itach and just agree that Kishi made everything about Itachi a plothole.

Wow, so much mixed reactions for Itachi Uchiha. Look the point is, you either love him or you hate him. I get it, ok. Itachi has been disputed more than most by fans... I get it, but the man deserves his credit. He's sacrificed so much for our industry. He's killed his entire family and clan, for the leaf village. This man is an icon, love him or hate him..... Here's the thing, Itachi Uchiha has been a big influence on Sasuke, Naruto, and the village. The man has done so much for this business. You have a lot of guys in the back, like Tobi, Madara, Hashirama, Minato, Kakashi, Shino, Nagato, Danzo, Orochimaru and so on. But in the end, Itachi has seen it all, and done it all. His legacy will continue to live on, for the next generation. He's definately a future naruto hall of famer! Doesn't matter though, Itachi isn't a match for me.

He defeated a brainless nagato.

He embarassed naruto multiple times.

He had help with the uchiha clan and most im sure were silent kills not fights.

He embarassed kabuto and made him and sasuke look stupid.

And to the guy who said he beat oro in a weak form, thats the second time he's beat oro low difficulty and the first time was waaay mor embarassing and oro wasnt in a weak form.

Itachi and Jiraiya are both Top Tier Shinobi who have had a huge impact on the story line with that in mind a fight between the two could go ether way, considering nether has a definitive knowledge advantage over thee other.

However I would say he is comparable to Nagato and what Sasuke has shown so far, since i'd consider them also within the Top Tier Shinobi bracket, the winner between them would simply come down to knowledge, match up, and what the plot demanded. For example Nagato beat Jiraiya since Jiraiya came into the fight with little knowledge about Nagato's capabilities, however Nagato admits with more knowledge Jiraiya may have been able to win.

The one I will agree with that he is not comparable to is Hashirama, because Hashirama had the power to spam attacks which would require maps to be redrawn.

But the be more specific here are the Shinobi I'd compare Itachi to in ability:

Hiruzen
Tobirama
Kabuto
Nagato
Jiraiya
Onoki
Danzo
Killer B
Uchiha Sasuke
Naruto [Before taming Kurama]

Tsunade [For her support capabilities not her battle prowess]

And if he didnt destroy his clan it would have cause a war with many dead on both sides and with both uchiha's and other shinboi from the same village going against each other there villiage would of been even weaker.

And just for the record itachi has a chance at beating both madara and the 1st. Espeacially madara because he's cocky.
