Look at this link. Apparently Itachi wasn't just a bada$$ ninja, he was a Player as well. Now I have much more respect for Itachi.

Think about it if you were some girl in Konoha when Itachi was growing up.

I'd love that to be the true story. However, I cannot realize why he spoke so hardly to Sasuke, about his wanting to prove himself and the "kill-your-closest-friend" issue. You cannot protect someone in that way.

chick from the lightning village seduces an uchiha / hyuuga then gets them to do... things and she goes back to her village then raises the child to be some leet ass ninja with sharingan / byakugan (take your pick) and then some other village has stolen there technique!.... PS - i know the eyes power would be deluted after generations of breeding with non uchihas / hyuugas and whatnot this may also be the case for inbreeding but still guys... c mon thats creepy

Itachi knew what war was like at a young age, and hated it, he knew the uchiha clan could make a very effective and successful coup detat which would lead to a very unstable konoha, which in turn allowed the other countries free reign to attack and make more war, which in turn would yield more bloodshed and a higher body count than simply exterminating the entire clan.

This was stated in the manga.

Itachi also hated the uchiha for being power hungry and killing brothers for there eyes etc, he wanted to stop all of that and saw the sharingan as a brilliant ninja tool but bad for humans etc
