Itachi, did Kishi make his story too confusing?

I was just thinking about Itachi and about how he was really a good guy just following orders. But then I started thinking, if Itachi was a good guy, did he actually kill his best friend to get the MS? According to Itachi he killed his friend before he was ordered to kill all the Uchiha, so it wouldn't have been done during that. And his friend did disappear, so something happened to him. But if Itachi was a good guy, he would not have killed his friend just to increase his power. So we have 2 options when it comes to Itachi's MS. Either a.) He killed his best friend or b.) He got it by other means. If it weren't for what I was about to say next, I would think he got it by choice B and took Kakashi's route.

Itachi told Sasuke to kill his best friend in order to get the MS. Why would Itachi tell Sasuke to do this if he knew he could get it by other means? The answer is, he wouldn't. If Itachi was as good of a guy as Kishi wanted him to be, and knew there were alternatives to getting the MS, he would have had no reason to tell Sasuke to do that. Thats why I believe Itachi when he tells Sasuke he killed his best friend.

Kishi tried to make Itachi into a good guy. But there were still aspects of Itachi that would only be done by a bad guy. He killed his best friend just so he could get stronger, and he also tried to get Sasuke to kill his best friend.

This contrast in Itachi's character and actions leads me to believe that Kishi originally wasn't planning on turning Itachi into a good guy, but rather he planned to keep him as one of the main bad guys.

There is no other way to obtain MS but killing your best friend. Kakashi found himself responsible for Obitos death, I think and that's how he got his Mangekyo.

There is no other way to obtain MS but killing your best friend. Kakashi found himself responsible for Obitos death, I think and that's how he got his Mangekyo.

He wanted Sasuke to get stronger because he wanted Sasuke to kill him I guess, cuz he loved Sasuke. And only after, Sasuke could rebuild the Uchiha..

Theres the chapter with Itachi being investigated for killing his friend. He's already been in ANBU and may know that the Uchihas are planning something, but he hasn't been ordered to kill them yet. If he had been ordered to kill the clan, he would have already done it.

It wouldn't have made much sense for him to kill his friend and make it look like a suicide if he had been ordered to kill the entire clan. He was the best ANBU and doing something like that wouldn't make much sense. When he got the mission to kill the clan, he did it. He killed every single one of them (aside from Sasuke) in one night.

Yes but acting strange doesn't indicate that he had been ordered to kill the clan yet. IMO what that implies is that he may know that the clan is planning to overthrow the Hokage.

But something like that could have sparked a revolt from the Uchiha. If they were able to deduce that Itachi killed his friends, they could have also deduced that it was an order by ANBU. They were already suspicious of him because since joining ANBU he had been acting strange. I just think it would have been risky to order him to kill one person, who really was of no importance.

I guess theres no real evidence discussing exactly when Itachi got his orders. I'm going to skim through some of the manga to see if I can find anything.

He probably knew who killed him or why and might eve have been a witness to his death. the theory that you must kill your best friend to obtain MS is doubtful even since Kakashi acquired it. Obito's death didn't awaken his MS. Obito has been dead long before it Kakshi acheived it.

We have some scattered information from Sasuk's POV, some random dialoges and claims from Itachi , who still died keeping his mouth shut about the truth about himself. And then we have Masked Akatsuki's version who , we know is a cunning, manipulating lier with personal agenda.

#1 No, really that is not true. Otherwise why would Itachi stand next to his dead Father and mother and then kick Sasukes ass? Kishimoto is Not Kubo.

#2 Maybe there was a debate between the elders... On how to assasinate the Uchihas and they asked Itachi because he was the leader of special forces back then. And because he was the leader he offered a solution ---> He kills his clan in order to maintain peace. And only then he has met the Madara Uchiha.

Wow,now I have another question: just how stupid Sasuke is... madara told him that HE HELPED assasinate Uchihas and Sasuke didnt even react... wtf? he should've tried to kill Madara back then.

itachi planned all of this.. he told sasuke to kill his best friend because he KNEW sasuke would NOT do it and would try to achieve power in other way and not like orochimaru by playing with people's life.

though still a question mark about itachi's best friend on how he died.. but still i think madara didn't told everything to sasuke and still is holding back somethings.. i bet when sasuke faces the 2 elders and danzo the real story will reveal

I don't think so. Kakashi did feel himself responsible for Obit's death back then itself... nothing happenned recently to remind him of it and inforce that feeling so intensly to make him obtain it years later...

I think he copied it from Itachi, during their encounter in Konoha. Next time they met, Itachi said " you couldn't have.." and left it at that.... I am speculating off course. I wonder if Kishi would ever explain that.

Why couldn't Itachi be by the side of his dead parents? They were his parents after all. Madara's space time jutsu would make him disappear the next moment, especially if he sensed Sasuke outside the door.

As much I dont like Sasuke he heard that, he's the type not to let anything go he might be waiting in the wings like always and try to kill him later.

He told Itachi 2 things

1. He remembered Itachi saying the he would the third living member of the clan to obtain MS

2. He would kill the other living member of the clan
