Itachi compared to Jiraya or Minato or others is no HERO.

People talk about Itachi like he is a hero and did the leaf a big favor. Yet in reality all he did was kill his own clan, because someone told him to. A traitor can never be a "Hero" period. Uchiha were part of the village and Itachi killed them. If he didn't kill the Uchiha.. Danzo was gonna kill all of them, whether there was a war or not, because he didn't want anyone getting in the way of him becoming Hokage.

Stop calling Itachi a hero and then talking about him killing the uchiha.. He redeemed himself with releasing the Edo tensei.

People say Jiraya should've been there when Oro attacked.... Well he did come help. But I hope you people aren't forgetting the role he had to play for the child of prophecy.

The author disagrees with you. And obviously plot played a role in there not being a third option, but what Itachi did was for the greater good and Kishimoto himself says in the databook that Itachi chose to do so because of his intelligence. Say what you will, but Itachi was forever willing to sacrifice everything about himself for the sake of others.

Most people don't have families that are going to butcher their peaceful village in a surprise attack and cause a state of political imbalance that would result in tens of thousands of deaths. The woman and children, as the Hokage agreed, were a necessary sacrifice. Sasuke himself is a testament of how the seeds of hatred would have grown out of control had a handful of Uchiha children learned the truth about Itachi's assassination. They would grow to become chaotic killing machines with hatred for the leaf village.

Those were words inspired by danzo. while danzo was awesome, the dude was a proven crook. If itachi, the strongest of the living uchiha went to the clan and said "hey, I know whats going on and I will stand against you" he might not have convinced them all, but I'm pretty sure a few of them would've saw his point of view. Especially if they knew they would all be killed either way...

Danzō was not a bad man. He was cynical. And in this case, his cynicism is extremely well-founded. Between Madara, Obito, and Sasuke... it's best not to leave any spited Uchiha around. And the problem with Itachi standing up to the Uchiha openly is that it would ruin the assassination, or benefit of suprise. The Uchiha clan, if prepared for an attack, could probably kill almost all of the Senju, as Uchiha made up half the village and they had a powerful kekkei genkai to their name. They were so powerful that Sasuke didn't believe a ninja of Itachi's caliber could have killed the entire clan even with the advantage of surprise. And Itachi is probably in the top 10 most talented ninja of all time.

Now Itachi, in death, wished that he would have told Sasuke and tried to convince their family otherwise, as he believed that they might have listened, but if they did not, then the price would be huge. From a logical standpoint, Danzō's suggestion was justified. The problem is that outside of the suspension of disbelief, we know that geniuses like Itachi and Hiruzen could have easily found a third option. For instance, naming Itachi the future Hokage would probably disperse the Uchihas' negative feelings. And that's just one of dozens. It's the same reason Obito didn't kidnap baby Naruto, kid Naruto, etc. He just seemingly lost interest after Minato died.

Other neighboring villages could see this as a chance to swoop in and take them out as well causing a full blown war. Itachi listened to the elders and took out his clan avoiding all that bloodshed. Maybe you dont consider him a hero but the man saved a lot more lives that could've been lost

It didn't matter if there was gonna be war or not.. Danzo was gonna kill the uchiha no matter what. If Itachi stood with the Uchiha. Hiruzen would've stood with the Uchiha also.

Yeah and if he had tried a lot of konoha villages and ninja would've died as well along with them. You think Hiruzen would've stood with the uchiha when they were planning a coup to overthrow the village? And I thought this thread was about Itachi being a hero which is what I was answering.

ordered the attempted murder of innocent people
tortured kakashi for no reason
planned to brainwash and enslave sasuke
joined akatsuki and helped them brutally murder 7 jounins/kages

since when was that the uchiha goal? if they had just LET the uchihas take over bloodlessly there wouldnt be anyone needing to die. and danzo hastily ordered genocide when hiruzen had a plan to coax them out of it with diplomacy

Why would they let the Uchiha take over? They were suspicious that it was an uchiha that had planned the whole nine-tails attack so that seems kind of stupid.
