It shouldn't be Itachi's fault. Sasuke is old enough to make his own choices no matter how foolish they may be. He's his own man

Itachi never intended for Sasuke to go on the path he's on, he can't foretell the future.

Itachi wanted Sasuke to protect the leaf in the end, if anything failed it was his plan, not him as a Shinobi or older brother...

Nothing happens the way it's wanted to happen sometimes. Everyone knows that.

(this is just my opinion, but being a failure makes you stronger. Just look at Naruto and how far he's come)

Personally I believe you are just digging too deep into this. This is a story, not reality. If Itachi didn't "fail" then the whole plot would be different. In reality, yes Itachi should have done something else. In the story, he did what Kishi intended him to do. Just enjoy it :)

That is in no way fair, you can't pollute an 8-year-old's mind for several years with ideas of hatred, revenge - just bad, awful things. And kill people in front him

How can you not expect him to turn out traumatised or broken, just messed up

that wazz his only mistake^^^^^^^^^^^^if ur gonna do sumthing do it right!n plus itachi doesnt deserve the name uchiha , he`s a betrayder to the uchiha clan, fuggin guy is an a**hol* i dont care what war i wud have to fight if it means protecting my clan i wud do it ,so what if the uchiha clan wanted to take over konoha thats not sumthing i wud go againts, the fuggin leaf village wud be better of with the uchiha`s running it
The hidden leaf blamed the uchiha for a crime they didn't commit, the senju were selfish and never wanted an uchiha to become the hokage they are dirty, they were the same ones that put the symbol of bad on the uchiha and called them selfish for trying to take over the country when in actual sense they were the selfish ones by preventing the uchiha's from ruling and took advantage of a sily double crossing low life punk who called himself a secret hero(itachi) he was used by the senju's(the 3rd knew it was wrong and didn't support it.) you can't do evil to stop evil.

Oh my god, THANK YOU! This guy.
I never really was convinced by the whole Itachi explanation from the start to be honest, and look at it whatever way you want- Itachi has made a monster & released it upon the world. Good intentions or not, that was bad planning on his part.

I SAY THIS ONE LAST TIME! FIGHT ME! I WILL REVENGE Itachi!
lol he is not gonna fight u man he is too afraid to get :flaw::flaw:
anyways as i said in my other post how can u expect someone who has grown with hatred to just kill u and just call it a day and become normal again? that was pretty poor planning of itachi's part:shrug: but the rest he did well

To be honest, I to an extent agree with him.
& I think he's bloody brave to post this opinion, because it IS slightly true, whatever way you twist it.
"Failure as a brother" is a tad too melodramatic, but I totally get where this guy is coming from.
+rep for you.
thx, the title was provocative  and it attracted all of itachi's loyal subjects but i base my opinion on what kishi tells us

Well, I read the whole thing. With that being said, I disagree with your hypothesis. I respect what you believe in, but I don't think Itachi was a failure. Had he not prevented the war (which he did by killing his clan), he would be a terrible shinobi, by all of our standards. He achieved peace and that cannot be seen as a failure in any point of view. He has also not failed as a brother. He was/is Sasuke's older brother and he will forever be destined to protect him. That is what an older brother does. He was powerless against Madara because of his illness... That's not really a failure that he had control over. Sure, in a way he created a monster in Sasuke, but it was necessary for his survival. The elders wanted Sasuke dead, so Itachi had to do whatever he could to prevent that from happening. So, to conclude, Itachi did not fail in any aspect of life. Things did not go his way all the time, but he prepared for them and better than most. Would you say that Minato Namikaze was a failure too? If so then you are no wiser than the Raikage.... Neither of these two historic heroes are a failure...

I respect your opinion and although i disagree, you have actually givin it some thought(reps).

i believe itachi could have prevented a war and spared sasuke of a miserable life.

I have to say Itachi's methods were questionable. I wonder if Kishi had planned for Itachi to be a good guy from the start, I doubt it.

Itachi could have done things A LOT better, he did some pretty messed up things to Sasuke.

But he is a great shinobi
good question kishi might have changed his mind after finding out how popular a character itachi became.

itachi was not a failure its just that he fell short of his goal because sasuke interpreted the situation in a way itachi did not expect/want.. so i agree with u to some extent

Itachi did well but imho i dont think it was a great idea to get sasuke to want revenge on him because thats why he left the village in the first place so he expected sasuke to kill him and suddenly go back to the leaf village??? that doesnt make an awful lot of sense.... what would make him return?

Yet, on the other hand, itachi did stop a war and let his little brother survive
so i think he succeded as a shinobi by protecting his village but fell short of being a good brother because he drove the hatred in sasuke way too hard. i would have been better to just leave sasuke ALONE then maybe he would still be in leaf

Edit:
We all know madara is the instigator/manipulator (ex. Goo kill them for peaces nagato! or Go 4 ur revenge sasuke!!) but he isnt the only reason itachi's mediocre plan for sasuke failed

good post, but falling short is another word for failing.Itachi did prevent a war but he also open a door for one in the future or at least an unstable s-class shinibo running around wild and killing everybody.

Just look at Naruto and how far he's come)
never indicated that failures don't make you stronger buta failure nonetheless.
Sasuke is big enough to make his own decisions and he will own up for them in the future but it was all started by itachi, and itachi's life goal was to turn sasuke into a positive influence in konoha.

Itachi‘s failure as a brother and a shinobi (not talking about intelligence or abilities)

This whole mess started with Itachi not fully committing to a mission he took upon himself, sure the elders gave him the orders, but it was his decision to obey or not.

He ended up doing a half job which resulted in ruining Sasuke’s life. Sasuke would have found peace if his life ended the night of the massacre, because then he wouldn’t have carried the extreme amount of hate he has now. You might say he couldn’t make himself kill his beloved little brother, which might have had some merit if he didn’t just murder his entire clan, his mother and father included. Itachi was willing to kill for his ideology and leaders, so him not completing the task was selfish and it obviously came back to haunt him and the entire shinobi alliance.

The remainings of itachi’s life was focused on redeeming himself, by making sure Sasuke was strong enough to not only kill him, but also move on with his life after carrying such a big burden. Itachi’s methods were also questionable here´, because he actually made sasuke more miserable by constantly mocking and humiliate him just so Sasuke’s hate could grow(with powers).Very counterproductive, because this also removed Sasuke from the love and appreciation he received from the village, and more importantly Team 7.

The only one who could/would tell Sasuke about the massacre was madara. Itachi knew that, but obviously he couldn’t take down madara, so he decided to keep an eye on him and keep him in check, which at best was a temporarely solution .When he died, his worst nightmare happened and sasuke got picked up by madara, and itachi’s desperate attempt at stopping madara(the strongest uchiha in history)with sasuke’s eyes failed yet again.I don’t think itachi thought this long, but rather put the ameterasu as an extra guarantee otherwise he would’ve thought of something better.

Finally, the last chance to help/manipulate sasuke into joining the good side failed with shisui’s eye getting exposed used against a zombie version of itachi. This was his last resort, and sasuke’s destiny is for always out of itachi’s hands, hence the failure as not just a shinobi but a brother. He now has to rely on other folks to do what he himself couldn’t. Action speaks louder than words, and itachi’s good intentions doesn’t change the events which occured.
I think we should talk about your Itachi-hate, because he's the only one you highlighted. Every single shinobi failed so far at least once:

Minato sealed himself forever and failed to stop Tobi for good.
Hiruzen couldn't capture Orochimaru and bring him to justice. Same goes for Jirayia.
Naruto couldn't bring Sasuke back.
Hashirama couldn't kill Madara.
Nagato lead a life of hatred instead of doing what Jirayia raised him to do...he just changed his mind at the end.

Every single one of the failed and those were just a very small number of examples. I could go on, but there's no point to it. Whenever you look at a character, you take into consideration his failures and accomplishments.

ITACHI

Failures

1. couldn't turn his brother to the good side. - that didn't depend on him alone, it was Madara's doing mostly.
2. used his trump card. - again, that was Kabuto. Itachi would have never expected anyone to bring him back, especially since he sealed Oro. Give him props for trying to time the eye perfectly.

Accomplishments

1. Protected Konoha from akatsuki.
2. Forced Sasuke (and Naruto because of it) to become stronger.
3. Sealed Orochimaru for good.
4. Helped delay the capturing of the Kyuubi.
5. Restricted Tobi's plans while he was alive.
