Then again, Naruto as the hokage allows Orochimaru to continue with his sick experiments, which doesn't really speak for him as an authority-guy.

No. apart from history repeating itself and loser VS genius, one of the main themes of Naruto is the new generation surpassing the old. Madara is from the old generation, so it is natural that he not stay through the manga.

Kinda. It would definitely be something different than these lame "The bad guy dies" and "the bad guy regrets his action and sacrifices himself" patterns of this manga. Especially after the harsh treatment Madara got at the end.

Mmm, I dunno. Aside from Madara being the root of most of the problems the characters have suffered (even if BZ is manipulative, Madara still made all those choices), I really think the concept that Madara loved Izuna more than Itachi loved Sasuke is interesting. I like the idea that the impact of war was just too much for him to bear, and actually destroyed him. It's good to show that some things are that terrible.

well, no. Naruto was stated to have surpassed jiraya and minato at different points in the manga, and while it was never actually stated that he beat the others, he had definately surpassed the rest of them by the end.
