Can't kill what you can't catch, but you can't kill what you can't hurt. i.e. Yellow flash versus Susanoo. That would be one of the greatest fights ever. My pick: Minato, he might be able to use the Reaper death seal on Itachi, which I can only think to be the way penetrate susanoo.

Its all just a matter of how you look at the rankings...
I mean if its about ability to kill:
Minato #1 for sure... he took out a whole army by himself... when he handed out this special kunei and just told all the shinobi to throw them by the enemy and let him do the rest... I mean come on...
Master of multiple powerful techniques:
Probably the 3rd. He used jutsu of multiple elements, all powerful techniques... he took out the corpses of the 1st and 2nd Hokages against Orochimaru, and then sealed his arms... the 3rd was quite the ninja for being old...
Master of Genjutsu:
Itachi definately... However, only as a leaf ninja, because he didn't have the EMS. Madara is his hay-day was stronger...

Maybe the third in his prime but I think it would be more like this:
Minato+Young Sarutobi>Itachi(+ or maybe >) Jiraiya> Orochimaru> Old Sarutobi

Hmm, they were both awesome, I'm not sure who would win, but I think that minato had space/time so possibly minato would be able to get past susanoo by just crossing space/time to get inside.

Itachi would HAVE TO get the 4th into his genjutsu from the start of the battle, and do a surprise attack... otherwise the 4th would move too fast to do anything to him...
I wonder if the 4th's "flash step" is faster than the kekigenkai of the "ice mirrors"... because it is a space/time jutsu vs moving really fast... right?

y'kmow, i've spent a lot of time thinking about it since i first read the subject of this thread. and i'm gonna have to go with "No". not to take away from itachi but really, i just don't think it would be much of a fight. itachi's a genius and all but c'mon, the freakin 4th?!? "the best ninja ever produced by kohona." according to J-man. now who would be on THAT list... the 1st, 2nd, 3rd hokages, the 3 sennin, kakashi, itachi and anyone else i forgot... the 4th was STILL the best ninja produced by kohona. that's saying a lot man.
