Is Tom Cruise really that great?

This is funny for me because i actually thought he wasnt that great after hearing bad reviews about him but after i watched 'the last samurai' & 'edge of tomorrow' i thought he was pretty decent. I dont particularly have any favourites or dislikes to any actor but tom cruise is good in my opinion.

This is exactly my thoughts as well. I thought he was pretty nice when I watched Minority Report and the Mission Impossible series. The Last Samurai and Edge of Tomorrow are good as well in my opinion.

I think the same way as these two, he may not be the best of the best but one of the best among the actors in Hollywood .

This is one of those generation gap kinda things, most people born before 1995 will see Tom Cruise in a different way than those born after 1995.

His older movies before 2005 were much better than the ones that came out after 2005. Which is why still today he is such a big name, when he was younger he was like the real hot shot then, obviously now there are others that have taken his place.

He is however a typecast in most films, but he has played a variety of roles (if you actually search his movies). Bottom line, he is a great actor and has proved himself in some diverse roles, it's just that he is typecasted, but I don't think he really cares, since he loves action films, he does his own stunts and just enjoys those kind of roles.
