Use the search function and filter it to kakashi MS or something. Most of them are about someone dieing or he gets it from training. TBH I think it will be shown in time but who knows. x.x

Per Naruto Wikia :D
Kakashi has somehow been able to improve his Sharingan with time. When he first received the Sharingan it had only two tomoe, but by the start of the series it has progressed to three. In addition, by Part II, Kakashi has extended the amount of time he can sustain using the Sharingan, as he is seen using it for seemingly a day while testing Naruto and Sakura.
During the time skip, Kakashi further improved his Sharingan by developing his own Mangekyō Sharingan through undisclosed means. With it he can perform Kamui, a technique that sucks everything within a small area to another dimension. When he is first seen using Kamui he lacks proper control, leaving him prone to either hitting targets he was not aiming for or missing completely. He improved his skill with Kamui by the invasion of Pain, seen when he successfully sends fast-moving projectiles to another dimension with it. Kamui's chakra requirements are even greater than those of the standard Sharingan, such that he has to be hospitalised for a week after using it three times in one day. Despite Kamui being his only known Mangekyō Sharingan technique, he is familiar with Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu, and Susanoo. He is also aware of the risk the Mangekyō Sharingan poses to the user's eyesight, though he has never shown signs of deteriorating vision (Chief Toad: because he doesn't spam it to death like Naruto and shadow clones).

Remember when he fought Itachi? He was using his sharingan to copy Itachi's mangekyo sharingan then. You noticed how similar it looks to Itachi's ms.

What is confirmed about unlocking MS is that it requires a moment of extreme trauma/ distress. Kind of like how Goku unlocked SS1, he felt extreme distress and about loosing friends and had a unfathomable need to do something about it. Some people think that MS is accessible through training but we don't know that for sure. Kinda like how Vegeta could not attain SS through training, instead it required him to feel distraught at an extreme level, temporarily giving up on his selfish needs.

In the Naruto world, MS requires something similar, extreme emotion. The easiest way to obtain this is to kill one's best friend. But other means include suddenly loosing a close friend or sibling in other ways. In Sasuke's case, he unlocked it through learning about the truth of his brother. This proves that any form of emotion can qualify to unlock MS, as long as it is dire enough.

The only real explanation is that Kakashi had a moment where he felt an extreme level of emotion, possibly through reflecting on his past failures. Remember, that in part 1, Kakashi had already lost everyone important to him. It is unconfirmed how Rin died, but it seems obvious to me that she died pre-part 1. So there is no real way he could have obtained it by normal means. There must have been a day in particular that he felt an increased amount of grief. Thats the only logical explanation.

Kakashi probably unlocked to potential to unlock the MS just after Obito died - just after he received the Sharingan. But, because he's not an Uchiha and his bod isn't completely compatible with the MS, it probably took him years to acclimate himself and improve his skill with the Sharingan to the point where he could actually use the MS.

Hmm I heard a very similar explanation a while back and it does make some sense. Perhaps there is a minimal strength/ endurance requirement built into using MS because if there weren't, Kakashi would have unlocked MS the moment after he was given Obito's sharingan. Remember he was crying having lost his friend? That surely met the emotional requirement. But whether or not there is in fact a minimal skill requirement before MS is obtainable, the extreme moment of emotional distress will always be a requirement.

The Third Databook's explanation on Kamui, "If one spends a lot of time and trains one's chakra over and over again, this technique can be invoked."
That is how Kakashi obtained Kamui. That is also how Kakashi invoked the MS. Kakashi never had a lot of chakra, which is why he has to train his chakra in order to use it more efficiently. Kakashi's continually increased proficiency with his Sharingan and lightning jutsu's is a testament to this fact.

This also implies that, theoretically, any Sharingan is capable of invoking Kamui.

The old fashion way practice makes perfect, you want to get good at something you practice and practice some more and more to get good at it then some more to get better and then even more to get perfect or at lest close to perfect.
