Is there a valid reason to consider the word "gay" so offensive as to ban someone for using it? A while ago i almost got banned from a site because my signature had "Gaylord' in it. They removed every comment I ever posted with the signature, removed my signature and suspended me for about 4 days with a warning. Personally I think is outrageous and ridiculous, you have to lack a lot of common sense to ban someone over something so stupid, like if "gay' is an offensive word shouldn't heterosexual be considered offensive as well? and bisexual etc.? You get my point. But what do you think of this, do you think "gay" is a really offensive word for some reason? If so, please by all means let me know why.

Gay itself isn't offensive.
But "Gaylord" indicates that you use the word Gay in connection to an insult. So in this case it is

But why? It's only gay + lord, the word shouldn't be offensive at all. If I were for example to say this person is a Gaylord then maybe they could take it as an offense, and rightfully so, but if you're not referring to any person as that why would it be offensive?

Gay isn't offensive at all even if you use it as GAylord.

Because you are clearly Showing High levels of Respect to the gay by Calling hIM the Lord of Gays.

"My friend Lisa is gay too, maybe i should hook you guys up!" <-- not offensive
"are you gay? ewww... stay away from me" <-- offensive

using the word gay is rarely offensive, but showing homophobia is indeed offensive.
calling someone which is straight "gay" might come as an insult though, but most likely only by those who are insecure in their sexual orientation.

straight people that take the word "gay" as an insult have problems with deciding their own sexual orientation.
not all straight people get offended.

when someone calls you an idiot over the internet, do you go to a psychiatrist to get your sanity/iq checked? this is p much the same thing. calling a straight person gay (especially on the internet) is meant as idiot or douchebag. its just a stupid insult.

now, calling someone who you know is homosexual gay as an insult is an a-holey thing to do.

Its not the word but what it stands for is extremely offensive in the eyes of "Normal" people!

If you find it offensive, you should go to bed.

Uh... if you call a gay person gay it's obviously not an insult, as that's the nature they've chosen. If you call me or any other hetero gay, they'd be insulted - and that's normal. The current time of allowing everything if it has enough supporters is what's making this stuff happen.

''This thread is gay'' is a clear insult, since the word itself is used a lot on the internet and IRL as a synonym for stupid.

By the way, being gay wouldn't be so looked down upon if most gays (men) didn't try to shove it in so much. I actually had a personal encounter with a sadly rare individual, who acted so normally, (like a regular, straight guy) that I was stumped when he admitted to being gay. If only all gays were like this, though. Sadly, most are from the type I like to call ''fairies''. The kind I feel like vomiting when I see, the kind that's making ''gay'' be ridiculed, since... well, why wouldn't it with their act? The gestures, the voice, the clothing, the way of talking - it all looks really stupid to pretty much every straight guy, so the normal response would be to use ''gay'' when mocking someone or something.
