I googled the word. I found some feedback

gaylord. noun. Offensive Slang. Used as a disparaging term for a gay man. Used as a disparaging term for a foolish or inept man or boy.

I guess that's the derogatory meaning.

The other meaning however is an American surname and a male given name. I guess because of how the word gay is the reason for it to be interpreted as an insult.

Is there a valid reason to consider the word "gay" so offensive as to ban someone for using it? A while ago i almost got banned from a site because my signature had "Gaylord' in it. They removed every comment I ever posted with the signature, removed my signature and suspended me for about 4 days with a warning. Personally I think is outrageous and ridiculous, you have to lack a lot of common sense to ban someone over something so stupid, like if "gay' is an offensive word shouldn't heterosexual be considered offensive as well? and bisexual etc.? You get my point. But what do you think of this, do you think "gay" is a really offensive word for some reason? If so, please by all means let me know why.

Gay was used as an offence even before homosexuality became 'not taboo', if someone is ok with it; use it, but they might totally want to 'not be addressed' as that since it could have two meanings, homosexual on the other side doesn't, so it's ok. Idk the context of your sig but 'Gaylord' is 99% offensive and obviously meant as an insult, hence the first line.

Calling someone gay also isn't offensive, unless they aren't gay then it can be. But if someone's gay you're stating fact, can't be mad about it.

Depends how you use it. Using it as a synonym for stupid is offensive because the word stupid is offensive. But stating that someone ks actually gay (because they are in fact gay) is not an insult.
