Kamui phasing is passive. He doesn't have to choose when and where it is used.
He was hit by Minato's rasengan because he deactivated Kamui in order to try and suck him in.
That's literally what I was saying. Hence why I said "it doesn't make sense to work on reflexes alone."

Kamui phasing is automatic.

Here Obito wasn't even looking at Guy but still phased through his kick.

Now about Obito being hit by Minato's rasengan, the way i see it is that, Obito has to forcefully stay in the real world when he is about to absorb/wrap someone.

This is why Minato said that timing is crucial, Obito's weakness lies only in the moment of attack, when he forcefully stays in real world and doesn't let his body phase out on contact.
You hit the nail on the head; my thoughts exactly.

Once he activates kamui, the phasing is automatic.

I think although Obito not seeing Guy, but he still can sense his present and also Kakashi is attacking him, the best way to avoide from getting hit by them is activating Kamui Phasing on that time before all the hits is lending on Obito body.

But in the case of Limbo, how Obito will know from where the limbo will attack and when? Unless he is having Rikudou chakra or Rinnegan

I think it's both. He can controll it when he wants to attack but at other times it automatic.

I would say that he activates it. Then when active, anything that overlaps with his body phases right through automatically.

Very good answer, I agree :)

So basically Obito either switch it on or off.

While off, he can normally attack and touch something/someone

and while on, he is tangible until some part of his body overlaps with something or someone and then automatically sends it to other dimenssion.

It makes the most sense to me.

Well I think you gave us good explanation, however what do you man under forcefully stay in real world ?, how would that even work ?

Wouldn't it be better to describe it like that:

While off, he can normally attack and touch something/someone

and while on, he is tangible until some part of his body overlaps with something or someone and then automatically sends it to other dimenssion.

It's a mode he can turn on and off.

While on, the parts of his body that overlap with something else are sent to the other dimension.
