is obito's phasing kamui automatic or reflexive?

But at the same time, he got hit by Minato's Rasengan (which implies reflexes).... So... I'd say it's his reflexes based off of those since it's the most logical answer.

But... Again... Some of the stuff that he has dodged via kamui just doesn't make any sense for reflexes alone.

Kamui phasing is passive. He doesn't have to choose when and where it is used.

I would say that he activates it. Then when active, anything that overlaps with his body phases right through automatically.

It works on it's own. The way it does so, is by automatically teleporting whatever body part is being contacted with. This can be overrun by letting things touch you though, such as the terrain.

This answer right here basically. Once he activates Kamui, it's an automatic thing, but he has to manually activate it at first.

Now about Obito being hit by Minato's rasengan, the way i see it is that, Obito has to forcefully stay in the real world when he is about to absorb/wrap someone.

This is why Minato said that timing is crucial, Obito's weakness lies only in the moment of attack, when he forcefully stays in real world and doesn't let his body phase out on contact.
