He seems fast to me without the FTG. Considering he snatched Naruto out of Obito's hands, got Naruto out of a bomb filled blanket, and THEN teleported. He also has quick enough reflexes to get out of Obito's Kamui. We haven't seen him at his full extent.

base speed is not just running speed....
how can you remove an exploding blanket just right after you grabbed the baby from a man who's about to stab it?

reaction speed: being attacked by raikage he was able to counter it swiftly, using combination of reaction and his jutsu...

another instance of a fast reflex:

- highlighting the importance of reflex to speed...

thinking ahead and reacting to it:

He is only fastest thanks to FTG (which is not really speed, it's more like summoning).

Without FTG, his speed feats aren't really that impressive.

People keep saying this but it isn't even true. Even without the FTG he had remarkable reflexes and reaction times. If he had slow base speed/reaction time he wouldn't have been able to avoid the 4th raikages attacks. The post right above you pointed this out but you still ignorantly posted a comment trying to downplay his skills lol

Use common sense people, he's said to be the fastest shinobi ever in the manga.

Galileo defined speed as the distance covered per unit of time. Minato didn't cover any distance. So whatever universe it is bleach, one piece, fairy tail or naruto. This is how speed is defined. Kishi didn't give the word a new meaning.

I believe I understand your point, about 'base speed' in regards to Minato as the fastest shinobi; how fast is he without ninjustu. Yet, I have to wonder about the very definition of "distance." While I am aware of the Cartesian coordinate system and Euclidean geometry, I decided to Google the word nevertheless. According to Google, "distance" is define by "[a]n amount of space between two things or people." If he were alive today I feel that Galileo would agree to Google's definition. Anyways, regardless of method, Minato's signature technique covers distance over time, because is it covers different space over (miniscule) time. To say otherwise, imho, is to argue on the metaphysical and theoretical, which could get complicated (like time traveling). And isn't Minato's technique a space-time technique? If still not convinced, as inspired by Albert Einstein, all things can be Relative. xd

The ignorant post is yours.

Here Sasuke is able to react and set up Amaterasu to catch full speed Raikage:

It is no different than Minato realizing that the Raikage was about to punch him and then Minato activating FTG.

Here Naruto is able to jump and save Sakura from being killed from Sasuke:

It is no different than Minato jumping in to protect Kakashi from that fodder.

Here Naruto from a far distance is able to create a Rasengan, jump in and save Tsunade:

This speed feat is far more impressive than Minato catching a baby at close range who got thrown up in the air.

Here Sasuke is able to move out of the way and counter the Raikage:

Quick reflexes, amirite?

Here Naruto is able to move out of the way and counter the Raikage:

Quick reflexes, amirite?

The list goes on.

Minato is not known as the Yellow Flash for his running speed, body flicker, or reflexes. His is renowned as the fastest for his FTG technique. The databook even proves it:

Minatos base speed is yellowflash so without FTG he is one of the fastest and with FTG no one can surpass him.....

Agreed. BTW hate me if you will but really guys why do you all say Minato solo's all? Its called fire style. Burn all the seals on his kunai he cant do jack shit besides spam rasengan like really what other tech's does he have besides these.

1. Space time ninjutsu

2. Rasengan spamming

3. Sealing (Learned to control nine tails by Uzumaki clan. example RDS)

Yeah, when Obito tried to trap him in those chains, did you see how fast he escaped? o_O Zoooooom. (That was without Hiraishin)

This answer is simple enough. He's physically the fastest because it takes reflexes to activate any jutsu. Remember Lee's golden rule from way back in part one: "It doesn't matter if you see an attack coming if your body isn't fast enough to react to it. With that being said, Minato could not only see Raikage's attack, but was still able to dodge it a POINT BLANK RANGE, meaning that his reflexes were faster than the attack and allowed him to activate his FTG jutsu and escape.

On another note, Minato actually does have amazing foot speed as well, which is probably why his reflexes are as good as they are. But when you have FTG, no matter how fast you are physically, you are going to use FTG if it's faster. It doesn't mean you aren't fast on your own, it just means you are using what you got

How can we make assumptions on Minato's base speed when we've never even seen it... So far we've only seen ftg and ftg v2.

Minato base speed is extremely fast, he saved Naruto without his FTG in a blink of an eye.

We've seen Minato's actual speed twice. Once when he saved Kakashi and another when he saved baby Naruto. That's good enough evidence.

I really don't see THAT many people saying that. Uchiha fanboys are a lot more prevalent on the base than Minato fanboys from what I've seen.

It isn't realistic at all to say someone would beat minato by simply burning the seals with fire style. If this were the case, people wouldn't have been given flee on sight orders during the 3rd war. Obviously it wouldn't be easy for one to actually accomplish that, especially when they don't know where most of the seals are.
