Yes good point. But earlier i said Galileo defined speed as the distance covered per unit of time. Keyword: Covered. I know this is a fiction manga but I just wanted someone to convince me he really was deserving of the title "yellow flash".

hehe ok let me put it this way, he was a genius who appeared rarely in the shinobi world (gifted) and was trained by a sannin (me lol) combine these two and you have someone with exceptional view and tactic of the battlefield (exceptional battle strategy). then you have the jutsu that he created FTG and his super fast reflexes (naturally gained from the nature of this this character SPEED, or probably he was just born with it lol) and then you have his extremely fast base speed (witch again wasn't the fastest but still really fast). imagine minato with TWO kunai's in his hands or even using more (no wonder they only saw a yellow flash when he was there) and just teleports slicing up the enemy all over the place. minato is not just one thing he is a monster combination of many good things. and you wana hear something funny, am not even that much of a minato fan lol

hahahahaaha you're hilarious, but i always thought his nickname referred to is speed. You want to hear something funny? I'm actually a huge minato fan XD. However can you provide canon material that he created it? I remember Minato saying the 2nd was good at space time ninjutsu. Is it possible it was passed down to minato somehow?

Distance is the straight length between two points say A and B ... so If he teleports from point A to point B ..he moves that distance instantly

lol hmmm .... not really sure (altough people always reffered to ftg as the forth's jutsu), but am sure about two things :

1. the second's ability probably gave minato the idea (inspired) so the second used a DIFFERENT concept of s/t.

2. minato is by far better at it since s/t (space time ninjustu) is what defines him, he is a master of s/t.

you really don't consider teleporting as speed ?? its all a matter of how you view it bro (i respect your view), but i also have my opinion witch is who was the fastest from point A to point B no matter how he got there. its also kind of cooler that it was teleporting and not just moving, its instant (now thats fast xd)

Teleportation and raw speed are two different topics,Minato and Obito use teleportation,Naruto so far has used raw sped like The Raikage. You could debate this issue over and over and not satisfy some people Unless you have a test between combatants to determine who is the winner and it dosen't look like thats going to happen anytime soon.

I actually have a theory that the 2nd hokage would use a giant water jutsu and he could use space-time ninjutsu to teleport to any droplet of water, no matter what the size. Stupid i know, but i think it's kinda cool. But back to our debate I consider speed traveling from point A to B, just like you. However the only difference is i think you have to go by foot, or by wheel, or whatever means you need to get there. I'll admit teleporting is awesome! but it's just not the same as speed to me.

Also, why does it matter what the person uses? If a being can get to somewhere faster then the other person, then he is faster, no matter how he did it.

I see some people saying that minato's way to get from A to B in a flash is what makes him ''faster''.
1- Teleportation is not speed. Speed = distance divided by time. S/T jutsu allows you to ignore those, hence why FTG is not speed.
2- Do you guys realize that even if FTG counts as speed, Minato still has to tag his destination ? Before he can FTG somewhere he has to go there physically or throw a kunai and in both case Naruto simply outclasses him.

Well he is called the yellow flash and when naruto passed kakashi he tought that was minato, and you dont get yellow afterimage from teleportation. He was able to catch naruto in mid air and take away allready ignited paper bombs with his hands and teleport away.

Not necessarily! "Fast" indicates getting from point 'a' to point 'b' in a relatively short period of time. Has nothing to do with motion through space. Why does everyone try to sound like friggin physicists in this tread?

Let me just add that, even though it is assumed he is a fast runner as well, he doesn't need to run. Its not his fighting style.
Considering everything we have seen, we can however place Minato in the top tiers regarding his speed. Apart from the manga page posted above me, his reaction speed combined with his usage of high speed movements (as shown by him placing tags on people or places without others even noticing) make him fast. Insanely fast.
