Is Kishi a genius or a terrible writer?

You've underestimated Kishimoto and underestimated his paralleling of reality. At the end of the last chapter, it said dark clouds are rising, suggesting a twist is ripe. Also, Madara is too involved with the situation between himself and Hashirama, because the opportunity has arisen, he is willing to switch his attention to Hashirama, as that is of more interest to him at this time. On top of that, you are not to forget that Madara has plenty of faith in the Juubi's power.

Even if the Juubi has been defeated, it's took the whole Shinobi Alliance, Team 7 and all the Hokages to do it.

Why are people so upset about Orochimaru fighting against Madara, I don't see why he wouldn't try and stop the evil lunatic from taking over the world and enslave everyone under a genjutsu...
For this war, if you don't want to be enslaved under a genjutsu, or be killed, it makes sense to fight against Madara

I think it's a mixture - as in the stuff he's obviously had planned out, it shows and I think works well. A lot of his ideas, characters, backstory etc are fantastic.
Some of the characters as well as brilliantly depicted; (for me it would include...) Itachi, Kakashi, Sasuke, Ame Orphans, Gaara.

Especially Itachi ...

Anyway...
What he kind of fails at is writing female characters - and I'm sure he's covered this, saying he had to ask a female friend/co-worker for advice on reactions/facial expressions etc because he just didn't know how to go with it. At all.

Though I like Hinata a fair bit, the Hyuga backstory is great but she as a character is lacking... it's all Naruto-Naruto-Naruto... which is, boring. Very 2-D.
I mean I have no idea if she wants to be heiress, or how she feels about her sister - her family - if she wants to be a shinobi, if she wants to be jonin or... what. No bloody idea.

Same could be said for Sakura (Sasuke), Ino (Sasuke), Karin (Sasuke).
Tenten at least doesn't fan-girl herself off but she's left by the wayside more than most of the Konoha 11.

Also - I guess some of the things I find off/strange or confusing is more down to culture than anything. I'm Scottish so... yeah, bit different. *_*

Great writer whats terrible is when something doesnt go as fans think it should have, i.e sasuke, tobi not being izuna, certain pairings a minority or his fandom tends to pout and whine when it his manga. As far of his villains including sasuke and orochimaru all there goals are stated as of now but that doesnt mean that their true intent or motives are revealed but naruto fans are too dumb to wait and see how things play out.

And why should Madara do anything? He isnt controlling the ten-tails its rampaging. He is just enjoying the mayhem and watch the fools who think they can so easily beat a god.

Sasuke discovers the truth about Itachi and decides to go on rampage. and peoples reactions are: "OMIGOD, why is he doing that, it makes no sense, he gonna destroy everything his brother worked for and even died for. Kishi you suck!!111!!!!"

Sasuke after last encounter with Itachi, and learning about what is a village and shinobi, and also understanding even better his brother actions, decides to do right thing. and peoples reactions are: "OMIGOD, he said he was gonna kill everyone, why the hell is he good now!?!? it makes no sense why he doesn't want to destroy everything his brother worked and died for. Kishi is a terrible writer!!111111111!!!"

Kishi focuses on Naruto and few others like Bee, etc... and peoples reactions: "Fuuuuuu, Kishi never shows the K11, this is boring "

Kishi wastes 1 chapter with K11... and peoples reactions: "Fuuuuuu, this chapter was a waste of time, we wanna see Naruto and Sasuke!!111!!!"


just chill, this forum isn't full of people discussing Kishi story because he's a bad writer. otherwise you wouldn't be here to begin with xD
just seems like some people here takes this too seriously, and wastes too much time thinking about it, and when things don't go has they wish and get confused, they tend to become frustrated.

Honestly it seems like the villains are either being

a) VERY poorly written
b) Have a back-up plan.

Obito's acting erratically. Madara is literally doing nothing. Juubi is getting fodderized and basically tossed around like a football. Sasuke has arbitrarily decided to become "good" due to Hashi's history lecture. Orochimaru has stopped being selfish and the main symbol of corruption and evil?

Either Kishi is a genius that's waiting with a huge plot twist... Or this series is dead.

I'll eat this. That's my favorite.

I'd say he is pretty excellent. Sure the story isn't as concrete as it was but he has introduced many more powerful characters that have expanded the story (and POV of wars) into what it is now. I just really enjoy all the connections between events, mythology, and characters throughout the story.
