You've underestimated Kishimoto and underestimated his paralleling of reality. At the end of the last chapter, it said dark clouds are rising, suggesting a twist is ripe. Also, Madara is too involved with the situation between himself and Hashirama, because the opportunity has arisen, he is willing to switch his attention to Hashirama, as that is of more interest to him at this time. On top of that, you are not to forget that Madara has plenty of faith in the Juubi's power.
Even if the Juubi has been defeated, it's took the whole Shinobi Alliance, Team 7 and all the Hokages to do it.
