It was stated that assassinations are illegal, though there's probably some leniency in the case a dangerous criminal or group has to be apprehended. It's no different in the real world.

Even for independent mages that aren't involved with the magic council in any shape or form? If so, wow. If someone like Jose Porla starts chaos, then that person should be killed for attempting murder. Oh well I can't question that magical universe.

I don't really get what you'r aiming it. You can't just start randomly killing people, that would make you a criminal, but mage guilds have a special defined status within the law that allows them to preform certain duties that may be lethal and hence they are allowed to protect themselves. Though this is still very well a manga, so they really are not going to go into detail in a matter as complex as the law. Seriously this is really not that different of how it works in the real world.

You're right. And I wasn't saying you can kill random people. It's just that if someone is going to be a major threat to any mage or innocent civilian then killing should be allowed to that extent. But I understand since like you said, the law is pretty much like our world.
