One of the best, there was some shit that I felt wasn't done all that good tho stuff like when he was torturing Kakashi and telling Sasuke to kill his best friend doesn't make the fact he was a chill dude and pacifist all that believable

That kinda writing is also why you have USSJ threads lol

No, that kind of writing makes sense given the situation. People's inability to interpret both the character and the manga result in things like USSJ threads. No good character has done only good things. Itachi especially isn't going to when he's in a terrorist organization as a spy and Kakashi initiates a fight after he told him not to. Nor is he going to lie about how to obtain the MS when Sasuke asks about it and he is the under the assumption that the way to obtaining it is that way because he knew that seeing Shisui die triggered it. It's not intelligent to take things out of context, when you're a shinobi (who are all trained killers), Itachi is as close to a pacifist/chill dude as anyone is getting. This is asserted even further by the fact that he prefers to end fights as quickly as possible and use genjutsu in order to avoid actually hurting the person physically.

ot: Well, considering that out of the popular characters he has the least haters and the ones that do exist are primarily due to his fanbase...I'd say so. He's what Kishimoto wanted the ideal shinobi to be and his story was quite interesting. That and it really says alot when most people mention him to be in their top 5 lists as far as well-written characters go (and many people have different tastes), but you don't quite see that for other characters. He's the best.

Mary sue's everywhere.

There aren't even any Gary Stus in this series. The closest thing was Minato during the Pain arc, but during the Juubi revival arc we saw more of his personality. Every character will fail bar Naruto in this manga and already has failed slightly. The closest thing we have to a stu is Naruto, but even he failed at one point, considering that what caused Sasuke to go and help the alliance was not his words, but the tnj he got from Hashirama/Itachi.

No. Itachi is defined by proxy: other people talking about him and what his motives were.

Itachi minato and konan during their lifetimes were mary sue's.
I want to name some more but I'm sleepy.

Ok, yes I agree with that. When they were alive, they fit the classification quite well. But then when Kishimoto brought back Itachi and Minato as edos, they lost that and can no longer be considered as stus. They admitted their failures. That was when it was pretty much confirmed they weren't. U_U

But then again, one could argue (though maybe to not much avail) that Minato and Itachi were not stus, even when they were alive because they couldn't find the answer to every problem that came their way and had to make great sacrifices as a result. They were human at the end of the day...no matter how "perfect" those two characters seem or come off as.

Konan is a Mary Sue though. U_U

I really don't think you can classify Obito and Kakashi by themselves in the whole "best written character" department because their stories depend on each other so closely. /just throwing that opinion out there to get stepped on.

I can agree that for the most part Itachi's story is very well written, but I think that Gaara's is better. It's probably because on a personal level, I can relate to Gaara more. Obito's, however, is the most shocking and in my opinon...the most disappointing.

Yeah, Itachi seems to be the most well-written character. He was always in the shadows and actually had very limited showings compared to the other 4 main Uchihas, but he always has the biggest presence when he's around, so it's pretty ironic. Also, because he is like a shadow and a true shinobi, we don't really learn much of anything from him personally just through what others say about him. But that's interesting, because it fits in with his character type, and being a "nameless shinobi who protects from the shadows". He's like the Batman of the Naruverse. XD

I agree with what you said bro. Obito and Kakashi do rely on each other in order to make their stories complete & aren't exactly "best well-written" character material due to that, because without the other, they wouldn't have good backstories and they are very closely related...Kakashi just didn't go insane.

Gaara has better development. They're both written well, just in different ways. Itachi's character doesn't really ever change like Gaara's tho. It only seems like it because we learn the truth about him, but he was actually like that all along, it's just the audience's perception that changed not the actual character, but that's also what makes the character interesting. But on the otherhand you get to see Gaara grow as a person. Both are great works by Kishi.

I'd say the best written characters in the series are: Itachi, Gaara and Obito.
Just my opinion. :)
