[Uchiha Sharingan]

Itachi grew up in war (as stated) and hated it. And in the Manga it's stated that war brings a cycle of hatred (revenge). In order to prevent this attack (in my opinion the way kishimoto made it seem especially in part 1 of Naruto that the Uchiha Clan was determined to attack the village) he killed his own clan and took the burden on himself and even let him his lil brother live. He even made Sasuke focus his hate ONLY on him. When Sasuke was training under Orochimaru he was NEVER killing anybody because the only one he wanted dead was Itachi. Then when Itachi died he even tried to prevent Sasuke from knowing the truth (the amaterasu he planted) but that didnt work... So when Tobi told the truth hell broke lose. The whole world of Sasuke was turned upside down so now he hates Konoha. And tbh Konoha was the first to blame, they disrespected the uchiha because of the powers (RACISM!!!)

there is no right or wrong choice on emergency situation. hiruzen way is to risky coz the result is uncertain, the danzo way certainly will stop the coup. we cant blame danzo or itachi for the killing.
Itachi is patriot for the leaf, he will sacrifice everything for the village except sasuke coz he love him more than anything.....He is patriot who love his brother.
