haha don't get me wrong , i know he saved the 5 kage and village .
but again it's funny he preferred the village over his mother and father
and his last words to sasuke - no matter what you do i still love you
clearly he prefers his brother over anything , his character is really hard to believe .
looks like his father was a polite person , better he let him live and i know hiruzen's talk no jutsu could have work .
and yes i feel choices he made were not great , don't blame it on danzou
everybody knows danzou was a dirty guy , but a person who follows a dirty guy's order is weak (mentally) or retarded or bad himself or stupid
only thing great about him is he saved the day , with his effort
lol nothing so special about it anyway cuz he was so much powerful already . words of kabuto - you were so powerful you could stop the war by your own .

In a sense, yes, he is a hypocrite, but you have a very low-level view of things in my opinion. Throughout the entire story it's been mostly about protecting Konoha, yet he's failed to put a stop to Sasuke, one of Konohas most dangerous threats. Now while that's true, the question is can you really blame him? It's his little brother whom he loves more than anything, and knows he cannot stop without using force. Why would you kill your brother when you know there's someone out there who can still save him?

When could he stop it on his own? I´m pretty sure I missed that. Any manga page, please?

How could you know Hiruzen´s talk no jutsu would´ve worked? Ah, well. You couldn´t. It´s an assumption.

And yes, he loved his brother more than anything else. His parents and his clan wanted to start another war and he was the one who could prevent it -- as Danzo said, the peace solutions were over. It was either more talking and then sudden strike with everyone dead (even Itachi) or that Sasuke will live if Itachi does it on his own.

What would you choose?
- A chance, that all your parents may live but there is also a big chance that the will start a war that will be the end of them. Even for you.
- You will end it yourself and save your little brother, whom you love.

For me, he is the most interesting guy in the show. Everyone else is either too perfect (Minato) or too broken (Naruto´s dumbness, meh).

(Nevertheless, my favorite guy is Kakashi -- just so you know)

Itachi is far to be an hero,he's a criminal who killed innocents baby and old civilians, all this to spare his litlle brother.Hiruzen was right to be against any massacre. i'm not a itachi hater but it's a fact.
