In the final confrontation between a living Itachi and Naruto, Itachi bestowed a crow with Shisui's mangekyo sharingan onto him. Unfortunately, due to Itachi's re-animation, he had to re-activate the crow's ability to free himself of the Edo Tensei's control.

Even if he still had the bird, Sasuke's goal is to protect all the villages by killing Naruto. So if I commanded you to "Protect the hidden leaf village" while you already were trying to DO that, it would be pointless.
