I was talking with one of colleagues at school and he said he was proud to be white after he heard me saying i was proud to be african and of african heritage? is what he said racist? In my opinion it is because that shows a supremacist mindset as we saw in slavery, blacks are the minorities. Thoughts?

White pride is frequently(also stereotypically) associated with White supremacy and Neo-Nazism and is therefore ridiculously and widely perceived as frightening, provocative, immoral. I would undeniably state pride in my European heritage, despite whatever society dictates as acceptable or not. Don't feel suppressed to express or proclaim your racial/ethnic patriotism. Embrace it! Just do it appropriately.

When you're proud of being "white"...the question that comes to mind is "why, what's behind it?"...what IS there to be proud of?
Nothing to feel proud about, unless you're showing off to someone else. And it clearly means that you "think you're better than".

PROUD- "feeling deep pleasure or satisfaction as a result of one's own achievements, qualities, or possessions or those of someone with whom one is closely associated"...tell us, what's so special about being white, that makes you proud?Let's know the reason behind it, to determine if it's racist or not.

Only a SHOW OFF would be proud of being a race. It's just showing off to someone else.

Why should one be proud about own skin color anyway? Pride should be about something one archives, not because randomly being born in specific race/ethnicity. Those white supremacists, neo-nazis who walk around are sad, knowing that their only proud achievement is being born.

If you think his pride implies your inferiority, then that's you implying you're inferior, yourself.
No, that makes no sense.

people use the term "proud" loosely and out of context, all the time. They might say it, and not actually mean what they're saying...just "saying" it. There's really nothing to be proud of...nothing.

Not necessarily, but to state it as a way of undermining what you said and just completely shunning your heritage, possibly. If he was saying it like that anyway.

No, its definitely not racist to be proud of who you are.
But when you start belittling other people because of their heritage, that becomes racism.

Anyone can be proud, but when you start trying to take pride away from people simply because of who they are, then it gets deeper.

be proud of who you are, who youre friends are, and let them do the same.

Are you trolling?
So it's alright for you to say you're proud to be African but he can't say he's proud to be White??
What kind of double standards is that??
Btw I'm Ghanaian.

It's all in the context as others stated. But your point is still valid. It really isn't any more or less racist than any other ethnicity spouting their pride in the color of their skin.

Saying "I'm proud to be Black/African/Mexican/etc." usually stems from history's stigma where said ethnicities were looked down upon or treated as less than human.

For many generations we were taught that we were not equal to Caucasians because of the color of our skin. Though this has lessen to a greater extent in society it is still apparent in many facets of everyday life.

But I digress. Taking pride in one's culture isn't a bad thing (this includes Caucasians) but taking pride simply in the color of one's skin can easily be considered a racist sentiment.
