No way, kakashi is one of the division commanders in the army. He is taking out edos with a little help from his teamates. If it wasn't for him, zabuza and co. would still be destroying kakashi's division with the mist technique.

The reason kakashi doesn't seem as useful now is because his usefullness was always determined by his strength compared to narutos, and naruto keeps getting stronger and stronger.
