Sorry but this is sort of a common sense question,the fact that he controlled many tailed beasts one would only assume he had knowledge on their origin(juubi) and how they came to be.

Even kakashi and shiuzne knew about the legend of the Sage of six paths..

Common sense isn't common anymore I see..

Like I said the man is Hashirama It would actually be foolish to think he didn't know about the Juubi.
