It is shameful for a man to be a house husband while his wife does all the work. Years have nothing to do with it.

So taking care of the household isnt 'work'?

My Uncle who is actually one of the highest officials in Govt. Railways and holds the second position in the country for his thesis ... left his job to take care of my grandad who was near paralysed after an accident , he did everything from cleaning his sh!t to teaching him to walk again .... that made him a better man and head of the family than 90% of men with masculinity issues.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it. Hell I've dated women who made more than me. However, it would be different if I didn't have any income coming in. If the man is working, contributing to the household, and trying to improve himself/his family situation then it shouldn't matter.
Marriage is a partnership. After reading some of the comments here, it seems clear to me that money is being held in too high of regard. Sure you need it to pay bills, do fun things, and have nice things. However, there's other things that matter more. I'm not missing out on who I'm supposed to be with because she makes more. If you're any sort of a man then it's going to inspire you to do better.

I'd be ashamed, yes. Not that I'm not paying all the bills, just that I can equally help my wife pay them.

Women and children can afford to be careless. But not men.

This might sound weird coming from a girl but I would not like my husband/boyfriend to live off of my money, I like a man who can support me, not literally pay for everything but providing for his family. I mean in a relationship finances should go both ways but I like old fashioned family values, like I don't think mothers should work unless they are single moms and have no choice of course if the man is disabled or unable to work the that is different.

Hell no.

I like successful independent women. I don't want to be the only one working and paying all the bills. If a woman is capable of making that much money why be mad? Step up your game

I really don't like traditional family values. So I'm against the whole ideal of men are suppose to the bread winners. Also relationships should be 50/50 not men are in charge.

I never understood that concept of because you're a "man" you must do that and be that. Its such a primitive ideology to me. Almost 2015 and guys having problems with this? Loooooooool

Your woman making money or earning a lot is no excuse for you to be a lazy ass, its even more determination to work harder.

Depends how she earned that money. If she had a respectable job I would give no shits. If she were like a hooker or something then yeah there would be some shame.

Being 2014 has nothing to do with this. A man should be able to provide for his family.

Well, in most cases they are more likely to get better pay and flexibility in choosing the working hours and type of work so if they try , its going to be better for the family. But all in all it should be fine as long as one is doing their best to contribute to the welfare of the family in one way or another.

Let the one who can pay the bill pay, but then help out with other responsibilities at home. I only find it shameful for those who make their wife pay all the bills and yet want her to do all the chores at home too, and won't help with taking care of kids either .. I have a friend, whose husband ruined his business due to mismanagement, won't take up a job since it hurts his ego to work for someone( His words. -_-) and yet keeps sitting or sleeping like a log at home.

She cooks and leave home in the morning, comes back in evening (9 hours), cooks the dinner, and looks after the homework of the kids and all. He simply does nothing but pick the kid from school( which he avoids if she is at home by chance) . The food is ready but kid being kid often demands stupid snacks instead, so the food is ignored as it's easier to hand the kids a bag of chips. They have a maid for some basic chores like cleaning, but anything she doesn't do or if she is on leave, is left to be attended by my friend alone. Once she asked him to at least help with covers for the school books for the kid. His answer was point blank - "I don't know how to do it." Her weekends are spent doing everything else left attended the rest of the week.

The guy is useless ... It was so awkward when once he had been visiting his mother who was ill... The friend called to ask for her health and he said that his mum was still quite in a bad shape and was doing dishes in the kitchen. ... She told him to at least help his mom with dishes or he was only making it more difficult for her even by visiting her( he ate the damn food after all) ... not that it made any affect...

Now that's one jerk who should be ashamed for not footing the bills since he obviously doesn't want to do anything which is supposed to be women's work due to gender role crap no matter what. And yet won't work to pay the bills either...

Who said anything about being lazy lol?

Are you intimidated by a woman who makes more than you? If you're, that's your problem.

Obviously you believe it's the man place solely to be the bread winner. I already expressed my feelings towards traditional family values.

Not arguing with you.

If i was married and we had kids i would be ashamed to tell my friends my wifes pays all the bills and whatnot some men might be cool with it but i think its shameful whats your thought on this

If you mean that I was unemployed and the wife had a good job earning decent money, then yes I would feel somewhat ashamed of myself. However, if you mean that the wife earns more money than the man(possibly due to having a better degree or something) then I fail to see what there is to be ashamed of?

The guy being the breadwinner is something that had been ingrained to him, ever since childhood. Either by his parents/ people he grew up with, a deduction he gained through observation, or a combination of both. In the event that they cannot be a breadwinner, some guys feel emasculated. Some feel inadequate, because there's the male ego thing and the self-esteem factor that is being involved in the equation. For some men, a woman's salary is there to AUGMENT the man's salary, not surpass it. Some men think too, that if the woman is the breadwinner the relegation of "the one wearing the pants" in the relationship has been surrendered to the wife. I know someone IRL who had this sort of mentality, since his (professional) girlfriend at that time was already earning twice his salary. To compensate, he went back to uni and enrolled in Engineering.

I personally don't mind it. It also doesn't bother me that someone is more intelligent and more successful than me, or that my partner earns more. I just think that helping each other and making the relationship (and finances) work are priorities, though I also think the "feeling emasculated" part could be talked about in an open conversation with the partner.

The only shame is in having one of the partners inactive, and only there to provide *** and some love.

Just as before, I won't mind if my wife is the one providing, but that doesn't mean ill sit around uselessly. Ill be doing the whole house work on her behalf, take care of the kids, bla bla. Which is enough in my own opinion.

Being from an african home and being raised by both parents, my father taught me and made it clear that it was my sole purpose as a man to provide for my children, if you dont have money or the means to cater for your child do not give birth then. There is always something to do to make money but ego gets in the way so what if you got fired? There many jobs out there you can do for little wages but enough to put food on the table, you marrying your wife is your acknowledgement of you taking care of her and all her needs, and should you fail to do so, then youve failed as a man to some extent.
