its not that hard to find photoshop for free..you just have to make sure that if you download it via torrents that its virus free, comes with a keygen and a crack and preferably has a decent amount of seeders. as for gimp, i've never used it so i wouldn't know

They are pretty the same actually , it's just for you to choose. If you don't wanna buy it or download illegally... get Gimp instead. I simply chose Gimp, because PS looked like a mess to me. It must be about half year since I'm using it , and I'm completely happy with it .

Just choose the one you want or try both and then decide... Good Luck

p.s you would get more PS votes anyway, PS users are all over this place xD

Both are good program. But ps is much more advance and has more features...And also expansive if youre going to buy it legally. But i kinda disagree with Hiebie,i dont see why you say Ps is a mess, its actually the opposite >.< ive tried using gimp a few times. And also the burn and highlight tools is not so smooth, you hv to smudge it to get better result..Or maybe i just dont kno how :p...Anw both are good in their own way..

Anybody who says PS has more features than GIMP is wrong. You can do everything you can do on PS in GIMP. You just have to know how. It's a bit more complicated than PS, but in terms of potential ability, GIMP is in fact better than PS.

So if GIMP is better, then i wonder why everyone are suggesting PS.. weird stuff huh Einstein?

I would choose PS if i were you. Photoshop is the industry standard, and learning it well means you can easily transition to InDesign and Illustrator, and any other Adobe franchise.

like I said. PS is the industry standard. Every college in my country that i know of that teach media, digital art and tech use PS.
By using PS you also learn how to use programs like Adobe Imageready for animation .gifs and etc. If you learn PS well, u can make a living out of it. I bet GIMP producers doesn't offer as big a producer area as Adobe.

GIMP may also provide you with well enough experience as PS to certain limits. But PS is the most popular image editing program and with most users. If you need advice and/or tips when you need it, I'd say you're more likely to find another PS user quicker than a GIMP user.

I personally hadn't even heard about GIMP until it was mentioned in this thread and I had to look it up.:p
