Is Danzo truly a villain or a hero?

Had an arguement with my brother about the matter. Personally from all the information i have gathered he is definitly and even at death a bad guy.

1) Even though he wanted to become Hokage he had root which were spies for him and everything and even had Sai to try to kill sasuke.

2) Used shisuis eye to try controlling the person at the kage summit to convince everyone that he should be the leader.

3) He did talk to itachi according to the chapter just released and told him he should save his brother, yet he stole many sharingans as well as shisuis and even had some of hashiramas DNA in him (even though we know it was for more chakra/stability)

4) Altogether he kept saying how he wanted peace but just kept doing things that completly contradicted his "peace" speech.

5) His group root has a jutsu under their tung's that will kill them if they tell Danzo's secrets and also had his own students fight each other to the death. ( please correct me if im wrong about this one)

Going about being a leader doesnt mean your a good guy. Hell not every leader is a good guy and sometimes can turn out to be a dictator and mess everything up as Danzo was pretty damn close to doing but was later killed by Sasuke.

What are you guys thoughts and facts on this topic? I would seriously like to know. You guys all seem to be good at sourcing alot of arguements with manga chapters and page numbers etc.

He's an antihero. He's the person that the village needed, he does things completely necessary that others would frown upon, but without him Konoha may not of even survived.

well, he's an anti-hero. he's quite immoral and unethical, but the more I see of him the more I think he truly had the leaf's best interests at heart. up until he died I didn't think he did, but his dying words and thoughts made me believe he truly had the leaf's interests at heart, only the way he went about it is twisted.

1- The root did all the dirty work for Konoha's sake, so your so called 'Good Guys' can have their hand's clean, Sasuke was a threat to leaf village and a defector, it was a right call.

2-To unite every village under Konoha's banner,it will make the village strong.

3-He gave itachi choice and told him the truth,if Uchiha were to attack then every one would have been killed,including Sasuke and Konoha shinobi,Itachi chose his path.

4-He did what was necessary at the time to protect his village, He can not see future.

5-That jutsu is their to prevent them from reveling secret's about root and village,should they be captured by enemy, No jutsu makes their body go numb It does not kills them.

I disagree. Danzo is a good, but misdirected character.

1) He wanted to become Hokage because he felt he would be able to make the tough decisions to keep the Leaf safe. Spies are necessary in the shinobi world. Sasuke was a threat to the Leaf and the other hidden villages. His actions may have lead to a war between the villages.

2) While corrupt, he was trying to ensure that the Leaf's best interests were maintained.

3) He could've just told Itachi to kill Sasuke, but he didn't. He kept the eyes out of enemy (Tobi's) hands.

4) Danzo is has a utilitarian view. Under that philosophy, he's willing to sacrifice a few to do the most good for the most people. Not exactly ethical, but not bad either.

5) The seal on the tongue prevents the spies from divulging classified info. Loose lips sink ships. Also, on the death combat, they lived in a dangerous world where only the tough survive. Root is supposed to contain the elite.

Every light has a shadow and Danzo is such. Danzo is overprudent, paranoid, extremist militant leader type. But he did love Konoha and really wanted to protect it. Its just like the Elder Son he believed 'Power leads to peace'.

He stated the reason himself, that the whole village is not going to perish as long as Tsunade is there, he was aware of her Healing power's.

are you kidding me?.he is no hero but a villian.a jerk of a villian.he went against hiruzen and got what he deserved by getting killed by sasuke.he even had the nerve to steal shushi's eye when shushi wanted to stop this by himself.

Firstly, Danzo was greedy - that was his downfal - and also a reference to the latest chapter in that the statue that itachi chose was the statue that removes greed - ie danzo ironically pushed him towards that whilst standing under the other statue.

On top of that, his moto i suppose would be 'any means to an end'.
He was always thinking of the greater good for the village (proven by his death against sasuke where he sacrificed his sharingan arms + his life to stop sasuke and protect the village), but his tactics and ideology is stretched and distorted, causing him to go around messing other peoples lives up for what he thought would help, and satisfy the greater good.

ultimately he failed in every aspect, but what can you say, he was doing what he thought was right - even if he seemed greedy whilst doing it.

Perhaps his arrogance pursuaded him to beleive he was what was best for the world

doesnt change the fact that people were dying even with her healing power yet he chose not to help. thats pretty effed up if you ask me and evil. again its like hes just letting people do the dirty work while he still gets credited for it.
