Now it is a Christian holiday, we're just telling you it didn't start off as one and it was adopted by Christians and Catholics from a previous era.

Idk about what you're trying to tell but you are telling me that Christmas was taken by Christianity while in reality Christmas took some of the common traditions from the festival that was being held.

It adds up perfectly to the fact that you are actually the one who missed the point of my post. Don't try to change the topic on one detail and make the thing that really matters in this debate go unseen and that is a false claim of Christmas being stolen by Christianity. As for the date I have already said that it's the meaning that matters not the formality.

I can see this isn't going anywhere. Believe whatever u think is right.

this applies only for christians.

if you do some research, you'll see that 25th December is the date of birth for other deities too.

Yeah, but they're talking specifically about Christmas here...

No not at all. Christmas was created by Catholics in the 1300's around when Europeans started switching from paganism to religion. They just adopted two of the previous festivals and changed them. Those festivals being Easter and Christmas, when Christianity came up as an alternative to catholisism and kept they kept the revamped version of the holidays.

So as of today you're right on why they're celebrated, it just didn't start that way or is anyone's actual birthday. But you can celebrate it however you wish. Its still a day to celebrate the birth of Christ, just not his exact birthday.

Exactly. What non-Christians celebrate is NOT Christmas it is a festival wich has nothing to do with Christianity. The problem is they like to mask it as Christmas so that Christians would forget about what is really celebrated. I disagree on the part in wich you said Christmas can be celebrated withoud God since it makes no sense what so ever.

You have the day off so you Go see a movie with a friend. Have a poker game with pizza and beer. go to a strip club... etc. there's plenty of ways to keep Christianity out of it.

So finnaly we conclude it was just a case of misunderstanding. Just to be sure we mean the same thing:
Christmas is formed by Catholics and it's relation with pagan festivals (wich don't serve the same purpose and are not a demasked version of Christmas) is that it has inherited some of their traditions such as decorating, fireworks and gift giving.

Originally celebrated by Pagans it is the day when the nights start to become shorter and the days longer. Jesus was born in spring I believe, they use Christmas for the celebration of his birth to say that the world became a lighter place after he was born.

Then it's not celebrating Chritmas anymore. Christmas is a day in wich we give special honor to our God and celebrate his birth. You do not celebrate it by going to a strip club. You are basically stating that you can celebrate God's birthday without God in it. A paradox beyond any other.

Yeah exactly, it. No one or at least I wasn't trying to bash your religion like a lot of people do on here. Just telling you how the holidays came to be.

Christmas is a christian holiday. But it originates as a pagan holiday that they adopted and decided to say that Jesus was born on this day.

Christmas, by traditional definition, is a religious (Christian) holiday.. there is no if, and, or but about it.

Precisely why I don't celebrate it.
