I thought my earlier cleared up this issue. Though weak, Madara used that reason as an excuse to test out the Jūbi's powers on both Jinchūriki's , leading Obito to the conclusion of him being purposely attack by Gai as a means to exercise the former. In the two chapters preceding 610, it is not stated. However, in 610 Obito realizes that Madara allowed their current situation to develop because of the previous instances, to which; Obito calls him a child.

That is it Obito's sentence. Madara used Gai's attack as an excuse to set-up his reason for using the Jūbi’s power on the two Jinchūriki's. I'm only saying what was translated in the manga, and answering your question to why Gai's attack was not that completely effective on Madara. Madara while in Susano'o allowed himself to be attack by Gai, for what reason, well as he's basis to exercise the Jūbi’s power on the opposition.

Simply put, Madara was looking for a reason to use the Jūbi’s power, and Naruto n company offered that reason—which Obito finally understood towards the end of chapter.
WTH :sy:

It's a piss poor explanation; although, I hope the overall idea still is projected. I don't know what Masashi-san was thinking, but I've only described it as translated from the raws.

No it's not that it just that what your saying is full of sh** lol

You're calling yourself the unbiased one yet you're very biased, no offense.
It you can clearly read Madara's body language, Varrah happens to be right.
Madara saw that Juubi was about to get revived so he didn't care that much. Juubi was his priority.

Well, like i've said, what you mention is not stated in the manga. So it's only an interpretation like there could be many others. Not saying that what you say is wrong, but it's only an interpretation since we can't say for sure what he really intended or meant by that

Sure, sure; I won't turn this into an argument, but let's have you translate the page and see what you come up with?

I'm not biased and let me tell you why I think what he is saying is horse sh**. Madara made it very clear he wanted to capture Naruto and Bee before reviving the juubi. Hirudora is a very fast attack and Madara had very little time to react and 0 chance to dodge as it look like it caught him off gaurd. He gets hit by it and now his plan changes? Ok he ment to take a hit that could have potentially knocked him out and get him sealed, that sound like sh** to me logicly speaking and Kishi tend to make thing like this very clear. That like saying he wants to take a rasen-shuriken on purpose to give him an excuse.

To each his own, but did I ever say I was sold on the reason?

To get on the topic of the thread, the move in and of itself is not strictly a gate move, it's just highly unlikely that someone who hasn't opened the seventh gate can use it (same with morning peacock). It's basically a super high speed punch. Opening the gates allows him to do this, and I don't think anyone else is capable of such speed in a single punch. So it's a gates move because there's really no other way to do it, but it is within the realm of possibility that someone can punch that fast without the gates, and the move should be replicated.
