Thank you to everyone for all the great comments in the previous thread, I was really glad that everyone, well mostly everyone liked it :). I promised a part 2 that's got to do with all the characters so here it is. Once again some of you might have known all this already, but this is here for those who didn't. I hope you enjoy :)

The Characters

A lot of people think Kishi named Naruto after the food “fish cakes “called “Naruto” in Japan. This however is not the reason Kishi chose Naruto. Naruto-shi is the name of a city in southern Japan it has a kind of strait where whirlpools are always violently swirling due to an enclosed body of water being affected by the rising and falling tides. Naruto could also roughly mean “maelstrom”. Naruto's family name is Uzumaki that means “whirlpool”. Also the Fourth Hokage's name is Minato which can mean port or harbor, they all have water related names.

Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru are characters from an original Japanese folktale called Jiraiya Gōketsu Monogatari (The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya). In this folktale Jiraiya, a ninja, who uses shape shifting magic to morph into a gigantic toad. The heir of a powerful clan in Kyushu of the same name, Jiraiya fell in love with Tsunade, a beautiful young princess who masters snail magic. His arch-enemy was his one-time follower, Orochimaru, who mastered snake magic.

Itachi’s ocular powers Amaterasu, Susanoo and Tsukuyomi and the genjutsu Izanagi are all from a Japanese mythology story. In Japanese mythology, Susanoo, the powerful storm of Summer, is the brother of Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, and of Tsukuyomi, the god of the moon. All three were born from Izanagi, when he washed his face clean of the pollutants of Yomi, the underworld. Amaterasu was born when Izanagi washed out his left eye, Tsukuyomi was born from the washing of the right eye, and Susanoo from the washing of the nose.

The summoned monkey Enma that turned into the extending staff used by the 3rd Hokage comes from the classic Chinese literature “Journey to the West”. The staff belonged to the main character “Monkey”. This staff is also seen in the anime Dragon Ball/Z, Goku owns it.

The name Sasuke come from the great ninja Sarutobi Sasuke. The third also gains his surname from this man.

The name Hanzo was a famous samurai and shinobi of the Sengoku era, credited with saving the life of Tokugawa Ieyasu and then helping him to become the ruler of united Japan.

The writer of Fairy Tail, Hiro Mashima, gave a tribute to Shikamaru by creating a character that looks and has the same powers as him named Kageyama.

Sharingan tamoe is the traditional symbol of Okinawa. The Koyasan Shingon sect of Buddhism uses the Hidari Gomon as a visual representation of the cycle of life.

The Kyuubi comes from Chinese folktales of fox spirits (called Huli-jing) that may have up to nine tails. The stories date back to the 11th-century. The more tails a fox has (they may have as many as nine) the older, wiser, and more powerful it is.

Kishi was inspired by Dragon Ball to create some elements of Naruto, the Rasengan was created to give homage to the Kamehameha wave.

Rock Lee’s character is based on the famous actor Bruce Lee. Fundamentals of Bruce Lee’s last name, fighting style and hairstyle were used to create Rock Lee.

The ‘Seven Swordsmen of the Mist” is an adaption of Akira Kurosawa's 1958 drama classic "The Seven Samurai" which was remade to a Western “The Magnificent Seven” in 1960.

Orochimaru’s sword of Kusanagi is a legendary Japanese sword, analogous to the British Excalibur, and is one of three Imperial Regalia of Japan.

If there is anything that I missed once again you can post it. ;)

pain was based off of the six paths of reincarnation of bhuddism

the summoning of jiraiya, tsunade and orochimaru are toads, snakes and slugs. this is based on a version of rock-paper-scissors. the snake is afraid of the slug, the slug is afraid of a toad and the toad is afraid of the snake

This isn't the best fact and it's more in the manga then anything and you all probably know this but....

Kakashi stole Obito's eye so if Obito were alive today he would have the same Mangekyou as Kakashi today

And also the reason Kakashi didn't have to kill his best friend to posses mankeyou is because Obito died right in front of him

He didn't steal it.

But I agree. I also think he gained MS because he blames himself for Obito's death.

Cool facts. I knew the majority, but some were new. I love trivia like this.
