This is one way you can end this technique which doesn't exclude the other way though. For normal people the option is to touch the caster of this illusion, but since the Sharingan can see through them nevertheless, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Don't confuse the ability of sharingan to see through genjutsu with breaking them....
There are genjutsus that simulate reality, and casues the victim to not even know they are in one..
EG- The genjutsu used on deidara, or the ones itachi used on sasuke at the start of their fight...
With the sharingan, You know you're in the genjutsu the moment it's cast on you, thus giving you more time to break it than others.. since others would frst have to realize they are in it, then break it...
Genjutsus like Bod, or paralysis genjutsu, The victims already know they are in a genjutsu.. Most restraining genjutsu like these tend to have methods to stop the person from breaking it...
The very fact that hiruzen didn't even try the much easier way of just putting his hands together and breaking it, shows that most like touching is the only way to end it.... Which would explain why the technique is an A rank..
If it was just a genjutsu that blinded you for a little, then its no better than shee's
This genjutsu can't be broken with just a simple touch. You have to either deal great damage to Hashirama or actually kill him.

See through and break is at some point the same thing. Sasuke for example really managed to break Tsukuyomi through being an Uchiha with Sharingan, what means that the Sharingan is actually breaking them at some point. Kakashi on the other hand who knew at the very beginning to be in an illusion, couldn't do anything.
No one knows this for sure so everyone is going by his logic. Maybe the Sharingan could throw this illusion back to the caster, too.

I believe it has been stated that it is the speed at which the sharingan can analyse jutsu that allows an uchiha and thus Sasuke to be able to break a tsukuyomi, remember tsukuyomi is a very fast genjustu, lasting only a few seconds.
As for why Kakashi could not....remember the eye is actually part of the brain, Kakashi only had a sharingan eye, you also need the brain of an uchiha to process the information that a sharingan eye can follow fully, Kakashi lacked this, and against a legendary genjutsu like tsukuyomi a sharingan eye being used to its fullest was needed.
