In a story, would you consider killing off the main character/s a bad idea?

Say for example, Naruto dies in this war, but brings peace to the shinobi world would you consider it a good ending? Or if one of Harry, Hermione or Ron died, would you be upset? Is killing off one of the Main protagonists a good twist in your opinion, I need to get opinions for my book.

Going with your 1st example, I´d say that it isn´t a bad idea but it has to be done well

Sacrificing yourself for the greater good in a noble act and I appreciate some vulnerability in the main characters.

Under the right circumstances, yes. Say, if Naruto died the way you stated, I'd be satisfied with that ending.

But if the main character dies over somethings stupid, or they die in vain and nothing really comes out of it, then, no, the majority of people won't find that to be a good ending.

like if it is in the end of the story and that person is trying to save a loved one , and lets just say on the battle field then it would not be that bad i guess.

If it makes you cry, then yes. And no, but yes, because it has emotion into it and it makes the anime worthwhile.
