* was once asked this one on a job interview *

if you had an infinite supply of water and a 5 gallon jug and 3 gallon jug, how would you measure exactly 4 gallons of water?

fill the 5 gallon jug, take 3 gallons with the other jug and than empty the 3 gallon jug
put the 2 gallons of water in the 3 gallon jug, then fill the 5 gallon jug and and pour the water from it into the 3 jug until it fills, and presto you've got 4 gallons of water in the 5 gallon jug;)

Erm.. nice answer mate. I've never actually heard that one. It works though :D

I answered; fill the three gallon jug with water and pour it into the five gallon jug. then fill the three gallon jug again and fill the five gallon jug the rest of the way up. empty the five gallon jug and pour whats left in the three gallon jug (one gallon) into the five gallon jug, then fill up the three gallon jug and pour that into the five gallon jug. But it seems both answers would be right :)

btw, don't answer your own question. I didn't even get a chance to see it :p
