Never watched One Piece before, only heard of it by many recently.
But everyone recommends it so highly.
It looks fairly more cartoonish than anime-ish by it's appearance alone, but most keeps saying it's so good that it's their number 1's--now I want to know--what makes One Piece so damn good of an anime??

I could go on for hours as to what makes One Piece as amazing as it is, but I'll make it short. So, what makes it appealing to me personally? Ridiculously well thought out worldbuilding, likeable characters that develop as the series go on, damn good fights, amazing plot and overall a story that you will most likely never forget for as long as you live....

The downside is that the art style is not for everyone, and it might take a bit until you see One Piece's true colours if you watch it from the start, but if you're not put off by either of these and is willing to go through the 840 chapters of material so far....

Well, you're in for quite the ride.

I can't place my hand on what makes it my favourite long running anime/manga, it's just good (it's the best). The one piece world is so vast and interesting, there are so many characters and Oda (the author) manages to give all of them some depth.
If you love fights (action scenes) more than "plot", then you might be a tad disappointed, but even then you'll eventually come round. (Don't think I'm making too much sense, but it's that good).

The music, the fights, the characters, the character development, the plot, the backstories, the originality, the way it makes you question what's right and what's wrong.

It's just...amazing.

For me its the mythos, world building and plot. Oda has done one of the best jobs in this, the mysteries and secret relations between events and characters has me hooked. I need to know how every piece of the puzzle in the story fits together.

It's amazing because Oda, the author, takes his time to set the story up. So you get a big pay off in the end of an arc. or even over multiple arcs.

There isn't any BS like in some manga where you ask yourself, where the hell did this come from all of a sudden ?

EDIT:

Pro tip: Get out of this section now, don't click on any other threads. Take your sweet time watching/reading it. Don't google and search on youtube.

Otherwise you will get spoiled.

What makes one piece good? The concept of crews and its characterization, to put it short, the interactions of the characters.

Everything else is just above ok, overall the show is decent and won't be a waste of time (or at least not until you have to wait for chapters and episodes lol)

It just has an aspect of constant adventure to it. Very dynamic and well written characters as well as a very expansive plot. It gets increasingly better as it goes.

I suggest you read the manga and find out for yourself whether it's your cup of tea or not. If you like adventure stories full of badass characters, vast universe, running gags and awesome moments etc then you may enjoy it. Art may take some time getting used to it and it also improves with time.

Anything that kishi wasnt be able to do in onepiece it was able to do, like real fight scenes, a real hard work, the feels, character developing, deaths, etc etc, but you should not ask people why it was good, you should find it yourself young brat, become one with OoonnnneePiece!
