I know I may be a bit late, but I just finished Avatar The Last Airbender, and I'm having such a difficult time getting into Legend of Korra. I'm 8 episodes in, and the character's are alright, but I just hate how Modernized everything became. Did anybody else struggle getting into Legend of Korra? Does it get better?

The last airbender is better in every way, the characters are wayyyyy better and Sokka is so much funnier than fking bolin, korra gets her ass whooped in every damn fight, the characters are weak af.

but no, i didn't have hard time getting into it since i was hyped before it came out, Aang's story>>>>>>>>>>>Korra season 3>>Season1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Season 2

I thought Korra's first season was awesome as good as Aangs series imo.

It goes downhill on the 2nd tho, 3rd Season was pretty good.

In your opinion, is it worth sticking through the first couple seasons?

Just continue, you will find some stuff interesting, such as characters from Aang's time appearing.

It goes downhill on the 2nd tho, 3rd Season was pretty good.

Do not compare these two, please.

Is season 2 really that bad :/? I'm not sure if any of you are One Piece fans, but should I just cut my losses, and start on One Piece rather than stick through Korra?

Hmm. The seasons aren't long. I'll probably end up watching the rest of Legend of Korra anyways. Plus I heard there's a game coming out, and I'd like to be able to understand it all.

Thanks for the input everybody.

I felt the same way with season one because it was too modern. The other three seasons are less modern as they aren't set in Republic City so you'll enjoy it a lot more like I did.

That's quite a relief. Thank you.

A close friend of mine stopped watching LoK after the first few episodes as he felt that the setting is modernized too.

TLA and LoK are two very different series that have a very different vibe. TLA was more humorous and in fact more 'childish'. The main protagonists were also children/early teens. LoK on the other hand is more serious. It has less humor, the main characters are late teens/early adults and the underlying themes are often more complex.

I always had mixed feelings about the modern setting, which is based on the years 1920-1930. Still it has some kind of charm. Because it's so modern, it's much more easier to be familiar with it on a personal level and it makes you start thinking about how the world could have looked if some things were different. They integrated something like bending, a concept that does not exist in the real world, in a society that's a copy of our own. I find it fascinating to see how that works out and especially the question whether benders are still needed in this current society, which is the central theme of the first season, is something that could be taken out of today's newspaper. Not the part of benders of course, but the questioning of ideas, concepts and traditions that have been around for a long time and whether they still should be used in the current era, is something that's happening all over the world. You can mirror our own world to that of LoK, something that is much more difficult with TLA. This is really heavy stuff you know.

But in the end whether you now like this setting or not, is a personal choice. There isn't a right answer on it and it can also not be ignored that LoK needs TLA as without the latter, the first loses part of its character and depth. In the least however you need to give credits to the makers that they didn't try to just make a copy of TLA. They could have easily used the exact same formula of TLA, but they decided to make something different.

I loved seasons 1 and 3, they especially did a terrific job at creating the two main villains: Amon and Zaheer. Season 2 wasn't my favourite, despite it having some über-excellent episodes on the origin of the very 1st Avatar. My main problem with this season was though that it was too bombastic and pulled out of proportion. Realistically speaking all the problems Korra and Aang together had to deal with are peanuts compared to what Korra had to do in the 2nd season. It simply doesn't fit, it feels like an anomaly, like the 2nd season isn't canon.

Either way in the end LoK isn't really that long, especially when you compare it to the amount of episodes OP has.

I didn't struggle too much to get into how modern it was, but I hated it at first, like wdf, just a while ago everyone was living off of candles for light and rocks for flame just around 70 years ago.
But then when you think about it, TLA actually did progress fast in technology like their balloons being created one day, and some gigantic metal one just weeks later, or that giant drill.

In all honesty if your biggest problem is how modern it is, you should't have much problems getting into it, but if you have more than just that problem, odds are you won't like it much.

To be frank I really enjoyed season 2 above all the others because of amusing moments Eska created at every turn.
Though going with season2 felt choppy, in order I'd put things.

Season2 > Season1 > Season 3

Apologies for the late response.

I've taken a similar approach as you have, Calibur. The modern aspect of LoK does have it's positives. I'm currently into episode 5 of Season 2, and so far nothing has turned me off yet. Truthfully I'm enjoying season 2 more than I did Season 1, however, I understand how quickly that may change. Other than the Modernization of LoK, the only negative I didn't like initially was the art style, but I got over that rather quickly.

Last airbender had a great story from book 1 - 4. Korra just kept changing, but the fight scenes doe.
