Hey guys I'm back on here, since I have a pretty decent topic to talk about.

I'm watching the entire series all over, dubbed. I came across some things while watching:

What signifies how powerful Shikamarus shadow possession jutsu is? Can anyone explain exactly how it works?

When he fought Hidan, his shadow wrapped around him at one point. But Hidan began to free himself with what seemed like muscles.

Is it Shikamarus chakra power vs the physical force of his opponent? Or is it physical shadow strength vs physical muscular strength?

Any ideas? Let me know guys.

I'd assume it's chakra based. If the opponent is strong (like Kinkaku or Hidan) they would break out, which they did with ease (actually not to sure if Hidan did) But say with a Jinchuuriki like Naruto, it would be nothing. He broke out of multiple shinobis shadow possession jutsus and a seal, as did Kinkaku with Kurumas chakra aswell. But default* Naruto and Kinkaku would most likely not be able to break out, depending on how strong Shikamarus jutsu actually is.

I'm assuming the stronger the opponent is the more chakra the technique uses.

The Shadow Technique is a Yin (Spiritual) based technique

(See Nature), so Yang Energy won't be present in majority. So the technique is all about chakra power.

If his opponent is stronger than him (by that i mean more chakra/strength) than shadow possession wont work for long. Everyone he hit with it was surprised by it and caught off guard but eventually broke through it because of the difference in chakra/strength.

The shadow techniques of the Nara clan turn shadows into physical objects. The shadow bind technique binds the opponent with the shadow but if the shadow's physical form, which is created from the user's chakra, is too weak, then the opponent will break the bind like someone bound by ropes would. The more chakra the user puts into the shadow, the more resilient it becomes.
