If Tobi fought 8 Gates Gai and went to cube world to outlast Gai, is that a forfeit?

Not at all, it's like saying Minato vs SM Naruto, since 8th gate is a mode rather than a jutsu. C0 vs Minato is the same as Night Moth vs C0, not the other way around. Since your premise is wrong, your entire rest of argument is wrong too. So no, me and Evani are viewing it like every fight ever in NV. You are viewing it like a fight that has never occurred, ever.

Fair enough on the fight that has never occurred part. But when has anyone ever blindly pulled out their suicide move in the first 10 seconds of a match? Deidara using c0, Gai using 8 gates, and Hiruzen using RDS all happened after fighting because they felt they couldn't win. So don't say you guys are looking at this as every fight in Naruto, because a match like this has never happened lol.

If this was just Gai vs Tobi, and Gai went 8 gates because he couldn't touch him while fighting, and Obito ran away to let him rot...that would be considered a win because he was pushed to that point, correct? Same situation as Deidara where Sasuke forced him to that point.

But since Gai is using 8 gates straight off the bat it becomes different?

Evani solo'd the thread. You can't sit in the Kamui dimension for 5 minutes and call it a fight. Gai will be sitting on the chair with the most intense adrenaline he's ever felt while Obito is sitting their contemplating his next moves once Gai has died. He can just teleport and start another fight while Gai is dying, since even then, Gai will lose from 8th gate's automatic death. There's a location in every VS for a reason, it's for the two characters to fight in that location, not leave the location and then come back.

What I'm hearing is that if guy goes eight gates and forces obito to retreat, he wins the fight.
Sure, if the fight is restricted to a certain area and obito leaves that area he looses.

In that sense, obito loses the fight but wins the war since guy is dead and he is alive..
In a fight, restricted to a area- 8 gate guy wins

I'll concede that obito cannot beat 8th gate guy in a "fight" however, if the two ever entered a dispute- obito walks away alive, and Gai dead.

Ex. Kid buu vs goku.

Remeber, when kid buu blew up the earth- forcing goku to flee.
Would you say that goku lost because he ran away?

- in this instance, guy going 8th gate is similar to buu or cell exploding.

Ninjas does not fight fair. They are no samurai, there is no glory in honor only stupitidy. A ninja must do what is necessary to achieve his objective.

I'll say he wins because why should Obito be penalize for Gai not being strong enough without using a double edge sword power. Gai doesn't know about Kamui's 5 minutes interval, all he knew was that Obito needed to be solid to attack. Obito can shoot his huge Katon jutsus when he has to turn off Kamui and his MS will help him somewhat see the movement.

you can't get out of the ring during a fight, that's automatic disqualification

It's the same as trapping Gai in an Uchiha flame formation for a few minutes.

A win by default

Not really a forfeit, just cowardly. Kamui is cowardly in general.

There are martial arts where you use the technique of your opponent against himself, if he wins by doing that is kind of the same thing we are discussing, anyway ninja´s fight are not the kind of fights based solely on strenght, so if obito goes intangible or escapes, that is a valid move because no rules were set from the beggining.

You remember that niether neji, sasuke or naruto were promoted to shonin in their first try while shikamaru who forfeited his match was promoted, that means that shinobi appreciate more strategy than pure brute force. So in ninja standards obito wins fair and square.

And why restrict just obito, wouldnt it be fair that if obito is restricted gai should be restricted too, the only fair thing would be to let them battle with all they have including brains, strategy and forbbiden techniques.
