It's a totally valid to place to take the Sasu/Saku relationship once you're locked into it. It secures Sasuke as a human and brings up a relevant point that the manga hasn't come back to. Furthering your clan is a big deal and Sasuke is a little curious into how his lineage continues.

It also paints Sasuke in a positive light? If Naruto Gaiden were to be Uchiha-family drama based (which it already was) then why not go that one step further?

Why do you assume humanity or being human to be synonymous with romance? It makes no sense. Futhering your clan has nothing to do with Romance. It only involves intercourse and willing parties. That's it.
