They basically did the same thing in the series, searched for a lost friend. The only difference is sakura got to marry him. How does that make her have no self respect? Because sasuke chose to hide his feelings from her and made his feelings for naruto apparent.
The whole manga is about forgiveness and seeing the good in people, and that is basically what sakura and Sasukes relationship is about.

That wasn't Naruto's only driving point. He also developed a relationship with Jiraiya and his fight witg Pein had nothing to do with Sasuke. Naruto fighting in the fourth world war had nothing to do with Sasuke. Naruto rescuing Gaara had nothing to do with Sasuke. Naruto's fight with Neji in part 1 has nothing to do with Sasuke. In fact, quite a lot of stuff Naruto did had nothing to do with Sasuke.

The problen with Sakura is she doesn't really develop strong relationships with other chars. Her background story with Ino was very weak. The development between Lee and Sakura was awesome during Lee's recovery but then it disappeared. The development between Sakura and Sai was cool but it vanished too. The development between Elder Chiyo and Sakura was heavily overshadowed by the development between Elder Chiyo and Naruto. Sakura's development withTsunade was mostly in flashbacks only and off screen and it wasn't as cool as Naruto's development with Tsunade too.

Sakura's lack of substantial char development with anyone but Sasuke and the fact that Naruto has char development with everyone is tge reason we hate on Sakura but not Naruto for chasing Sasuke

Sakura was never shown to have any reason for forgiving Sasuke beyond his physical attractiveness. That's the difference between Naruto and Sakura. She understood nothing about Sasuke's pain.

Sakura looks worse because her relationship with Sasuke wasn't explained. I'm sure it was implied and that Kishi wanted to portray her to want the same things as Naruto, which is why I used to say the same as you. But now that Naruto explained more, he has a legitimate reason while Sakura is left without one.
