Let's be reasonable here, Gai cannot enter the 8th gate faster than the blink of an eye , or the point of a finger , or even having itachi in his presence.
While guy is entering the gates , it is similar to Goku going super saiyan, which takes time.

XXXXXXXXXX Wrong. How can one whos combat tactic solely relies on Taijutsu, hand to hand combat, fight wit their eyes closed the whole time? That would just set him up for failure.

As stated here , itachi can cast genjutsu on multiple people outside of sensory range, MEANING what? He doesn't even need to have direct contact with you, a finger point, a glance , any thing. Just a range. And guy has no genjutsu breaking feats or genjutsu specialty.
Gai would literally be dreamin about beating itachi.

You do realize that Guy mastered a fighting style that utilises eye sight that only looks at the feet. So unless Itachi has a sharingan on his feet, he's not winning shit. Madara did not toy with him. Itachi is top 20, maybe top15. He's one of my fav but let's be realistic.

When excluding Hagoromo and his family, Itachi is the 9th strongest shinobi in NV. However, when you include Kaguya and family, he's top 15. Which is great for a shinobi that has been dead for half of part two.

Gai has never been top ten. That's like saying Hiruzen with RDS, Deidara with C4, and Konan with prep time are top ten. Suicide isn't a win. Lol And a tie has no merit if you're dead. xD

Either way, Gai can't even make it to the 8th gate against any top ten opponent, Itachi included. The only reason he fought Madara was because Madara let him go that far and wished to "dance".

Compared a Naruto character to Goku... abandon thread. Gai's reaction speed is enough to allow him to fight with his eyes closed, and at the most, looking away from Itachi. Since Itachi's only method of defence against Gai's taijutsu is Yata Mirror and Totsuka blade, while he tries to attack Gai, Gai wears him out making his Susanoo fall and Hirudora is a matter of time.
