So you know when Naruto originally went 4 tails and he turned all red and chaotic? For me it always seemed that form had some perks to it that the yellow SOSP/Bijuu mode didn't have, like his ability to sprout new limbs and extend them was way more wild and rapid, and when he touched Orochimaru his body began to dissolve, or how he ate the Bijuu bomb and shot it out like a cannon. Something was lost in the transition to the final "controlled" mode.

So my idea is that what if Naruto enters his SOSP/Bijuu mode but asks Kurama to channel his dark emotions into the chakra instead of just having Naruto's usual calm chakra. Naruto's cloak becomes red and chaotic like the 4 tails mode and he gets the demonic looking face but other than that the cloak retains the same shape. Naruto becomes more wild and his personality darker while retaining his sanity, allowing him to completely let loose on a particularly ruthless enemy where his gentle nature would otherwise hold him back.

Sounds incredibly self-absorbed...

Maybe it isn't Naruto who triggers the transformation but if Kurama loses his patience with an enemy or with how Naruto is handling the situation he somehow triggers it.

Naruto is pretty much a has-been and a gimmick, at this point.

A grown man going ape shit going straight back to bijuu mode? The show ain't about him, remember.Nobody has time to relive his troubled childhood abandonment complex.

The reason the chakra was red was because of his flesh peeling off

The rage doesn't have to stem from his childhood trauma, during his fight with Pain seeing Hinata get mortally injured was what set him off, if someone did the same to Himawari or Boruto I could see Naruto reasonably going ape shit even as an adult.

It wouldn't make a difference. The chakra mode belongs to Kurama

There is a difference, one is refined and calm, the other is wild and fueled by animosity.

So he'd RAGE in a more controlled tactical way. He's grown.
