It's an attention seeking action. Just like the no make up selfie crap for cancer. I got nominated 10 times but didn't do it, it's dumb.

...yes of course it's an attention seeking action -> towards ALS disease. It's not dumb and is actually very useful in raising awareness, whether the people of are challenged donate or not.
