I wonder why the Anime tried to save some face for Sakura

Eh they save face for a lot of characters. The few times they do it for Sakura is justified. That's not even that impressive or out of the norm for sakura to be able to do.

Its just the anime that tries to save characters from being utterly fodder which is why Manga>>>>Anime. The Manga version was funny af.

The anime does this a lot.

I honestly appreciate some of they work they do for characters to expand on them outside of the crap Kishimoto's give them. My favorite Naruto episode on a side character is still the confession episode based on the beautiful animation, choreography, and the music choice.

The anime does it better than the Manga sometimes. Hell look at Kakashi v. Obito.
