Think about it for a second. It was stated numerous times both were handicapped at a equal level. Hiruzen was far out his prime and had basically half the chakara from his prime. He was much slower, he hadn't fought in years because no one dared to attack kohana besides Tobi. It was stated many times by various characters such as Oro, himself, and his monkey king summon.
On the Edo Side there was Orochimaru controlling the Hokages and had to co-ordinate them against a very skilled opponent. He was the first to use in a long time, and had not perfected it like kabuto did. He might not known about certain aspects of the justu, like when he tried to summon minato.
Now think about it for a second, both are handicapped at a equal level. If you think about both sides of the debate are right. But even with the handicaps Hiruzen still came out the WINNER.
You add that up with a containtment barrier that has to limit the size of each sides jutsu, you have a scaled-down battle, like the power scaling theorists were saying. It was in the middle of a damn roof.
Hiruzen was good guys.
