I Think Kishi made it obvious that Hiruzen was stronger then the 1st and 2nd

Think about it for a second. It was stated numerous times both were handicapped at a equal level. Hiruzen was far out his prime and had basically half the chakara from his prime. He was much slower, he hadn't fought in years because no one dared to attack kohana besides Tobi. It was stated many times by various characters such as Oro, himself, and his monkey king summon.

On the Edo Side there was Orochimaru controlling the Hokages and had to co-ordinate them against a very skilled opponent. He was the first to use in a long time, and had not perfected it like kabuto did. He might not known about certain aspects of the justu, like when he tried to summon minato.

Now think about it for a second, both are handicapped at a equal level. If you think about both sides of the debate are right. But even with the handicaps Hiruzen still came out the WINNER.

You add that up with a containtment barrier that has to limit the size of each sides jutsu, you have a scaled-down battle, like the power scaling theorists were saying. It was in the middle of a damn roof.

Hiruzen was good guys.

Define 'winner'.

And with regards to Hiruzen's hype (Iruka's comment) there are many reasons why you should question it - reasons i'll outline if asked.

This has been stated already. Hiruzen was the strongest of all hokages.

I would say he was definitely the most skilled out of all of the Hokages but doesn't compare to the 1st and 2nd in terms of firepower IMO. I would really have liked to have seen him in his prime but until then we can't say. You are right about handicaps on both sides, people seem to forget both sides were nerfed in the fight.

What you need to realise is that Hashi and Tobirama were no were near their full power, their personalties had been removed and they were turned into mindless killing machines. Also Oro did not know the full potential of Hashirama and Tobirama.

And the most important thing is that there was no way on earth hiruzen was going to win that battle so he had to resort to RDS and even when he did he still couldn't seal Oro because Oro put a sword through hiruzen's chest.

He sealed the 1st and 2nd, and crippled orochirmaru for life. He never recovered.

He did what he set off to do. Never wanted to kill orochimaru. He loved his student.

Think about as a metaphor for a slap in the hands by an adult from kishi.

It's stated that Hiruzen was the strongest KAGE out of the 5, however he was not the strongest shinobi.

Hiruzen was not stronger then the first or second
Kabuto stated he was the strongest kage of his generation NOT OF ALL TIME
The first and second are not part of his generation.Hiruzen was was powerful no doubt he was dubbed God of Shinobi for a reason i know he was trained by both senju brothers and learned most of the justu of his village.
He used the reaper death seal on the kage who were fighting against their will.He sealed them he did win the fight but that does not mean he is stronger then them.It was the only way he was going to win that fight.

I agree. It doesn't look that way now because he's irrelevant to the plot.

Here is this explained better in a thread I made:

Hashi and tobi were mindless killing machines they did not have their own personalities and did not fight how they would if they were in control of their own bodies all they did was charge, attack and counter.
Another thing they didn’t realise oro was in control of their bodies oro did not know what they (mainly hashi) was truly capable of. This is why when kabuto revived madara after altering his body he left madara to be in control of his body (correcting the mistake oro did) and said something like “now I can finally witness a fragment of the so6p’s power”. Kabuto did not know what madara could do but he knew madara would be on his side anyway so he could leave him to do what he was truly capable of something oro could not because hashi and tobi would not fight hiruzen if he didn’t turn them to mindless killing machines.

Hiruzen did not win this battle in any way, hashi increased his mokuton to the size of the barrier they were locked in. (notice mindless hashi couldn’t use his landscape changing abilities they were locked in a small area, also oro was in control and turned him into mindless zombie.)

Hiruzen realised there is no way he is going to win this battle so his only hope to protect the village was to give his life using RDS because there was no hope of him winning.

It doesn’t end there he couldn’t even beat his student, why? Because oro stabbed a sword through his chest preventing him from sealing him completely

Yes hiruzen stood his ground but he is hokage for a reason.
