[Theory] I think I figured out WHEN Rin died

I think people exaggerate the purpose of a character sometimes. Yes Rin was Kakashi's teammate and Obito loved her but the purpose of the Kakashi Gaiden was to show people how Kakashi obtained his sharingan since he's not an Uchiha. Rin is kinda just an extra so people can show how the squads are composed. What was the point of introducing Sabu, the man that Killer B went to in order to improve his rapping skills? Who the hell knows! He's just an extra to add to the story.

Along with this, add extra characters like that gives Kishi options. If he wants to change something up, he can because he added those characters. So don't just assume that Rin is significant because she was shown in a couple of chapters.

Kakashi failed miserably in keeping this promise if it was ever to do with team work again and abandoning friends obito would be turning in his grave.

Rin is not shown at all during the Nine-Tails attack. This leads me to believe that Rin died sometime between the death of Obito and the death of Minato considering we never see her again after Kakashi Gaiden. I'm guessing that we'll eventually be shown a flashback with Kakashi and her doing some kind of mission involving her death sometime after Obito's death

But I also want to note that if this is true, Rin literally died a few months after Obito (Obito died one year before Minato). And that means that Kakashi failed miserably in keeping his promise to Obito about protecting Rin And although that may not seem like much, Kishi usually always makes a big deal about the promises that are made in Naruto, and it would be interesting to learn why he would have Kakashi break his dying promise to Obito

I think he became a rogue ninja so kakashi killed her and awakened mangekyo since Itachi and Obito cared about rin ALOT =)
