No good history on T.V.

Except on PBS from time to time.

Anyone who willingly airs nonsense about aliens building ancient Egypt is not to be trusted.

Plus they have a super conservative bias, which is usually uninformative about the actual history,it just creates pseudo-ethical platitudes. (Did I just create a psuedo-ethical platitude?!?!?!)

I'm afraid books are still the best way to get some history.

Let's get our READ on motherf******s!

Nowadays the History channel primarily airs programs related to the ancient alien theory. They also have multiple reality shows like Pawn Stars, though I don't particularly like any of them. I can understand they are trying to compete with more popular networks, but its current programing completely breaks away from its long history as a competing network. I may like to watch a program on ancient aliens once in a while, but certainly not as often as they air them.

I miss the days where I could tune into the History channel and catch an Alexander the Great marathon half way through. I recall being immediately hooked to the television screen and not being able to turn the channel for hours. I loved seeing how Alexander would dominate his opponents with superior strategy. I'd love to see how he would use his horsemen at the most opportune times to flank and destroy his opponents. I loved to see how the Romans historically made use of a V pattern assault to isolate and destroy their enemies. I was always amazed how Roman armies would defeat opposing forces three times their size with minimal casualties. I was also amazed how organized their infantry were on the frontlines, including rotating the soldiers in front so that no one man would have to fight for too long.

Now while the History channel does still provide thought-provoking programing, I feel it is a far cry from its heyday. Surely I can buy copies of programs like Alexander the Great online, but I would very much enjoy stumbling across one once in a while like the good old days. Anyone else feel the same?

See the thing is I found the alien things interesting. So I dont find that problematic. But when you make nearly everything about the aliens(instead of just one or 2 programs ) and pawnstars, It is frustrating.

It reminds me of scifi channel(OOOOPS Syfy I forgot) I used to be able to go on scifi and watch shows like stargate(sgi or atlantis), eureka, etc. Now it is Wrestling(I dont say this much, but seriously WTF what does wrestleing have to do with SCIENCE FICTION), sharknado vs sharkzilla, sharktopus vs whalebird, etc.

Just as history channel still has good programs, scifi still has good series such as warehouse 13.

But its just not as enjoyable to me. As it used to be

I'm related to Alexander the Great. I'm of Irish descent, but when Rome conqured Greece, they sent Greeks to the north as mercenaries. A son of Alexander, was among those sent and started a clan that eventually ruled Ireland. That was my family. The blood of kings and Alexander the Great run through my veins
I will check your Alexander the great and raise you a Attila the Hun.

Wars they could cover ww1, ww2, Vietnam, civil war, revolutionary war,1800 years war, any war that predates modern firepower.
History of the state's, country's, booze, cigarettes, drugs, cars, the list is endless but today's society is to obsessed with Google which is wrong as much as it is right but hey get your info from some kid or do like I do and get your info from someone who studied the events for a lifetime.
I agree op.
Certainly material they could still cover. But my main point was things like ancient Rome and Alexander the Great are timeless and deserve to always be aired from time to time.

I also find the ancient alien stuff interesting, as I said in the OP, but there certainly is a limit. Some of the stuff they said seems way too far fetched and dedicating 90% of programming to either that or barely passable reality shows is unfortunate.
