Comparing apples to oranges. Vegeta is a mere warrior. Orochimaru is practically a devil incarnate with the way he experiments on people and takes over their bodies. Goku let Frieza live but did he change his ways? No, and thats likey the type of character Orochimaru is. Whatever the mythology it is that Kishi took the sannin idea from, Orochimaru is also a villain so its unlikely he would completely change him.

It's possible. If he helps out with the war effort at all, it's more likely he'll be doing it for his own self interests. He wouldn't want to be caught in the Moon's Eye Plan.
